ok so mines is running a bit sluggish the now 2003 freelander serengeti, and i know it can be a few things but have never heard of this crankcase filter before with not owning one of these before now so reckon its probably not been replaced when it should have,

i know it can be a few things from maf, filters, egr valve etc so i will just work my way through them i think, so any guides or pictures for doing to egr would be great as well please!

so my questions i what do they look like and where are they for replacing? can anyone advise with clear pictures or a guide etc?

Grant

hope u don't mind me saying

is better to fit a genuine bmw modified crankcase breather , don't have to worry about any filter then

sorry can't remember the part number, if u do a search there's plenty of info about it

I did my PCV filter last month, when I the upgraded bit as there was quite a bit of oil in the hoses coming from that area. When I removed the PCV housing, low and behold there was already an upgrade fitted. Should have know as whoever did that trashed the Allan head screws fitting it. MELON! Got me thinking what all the fuss is about this 'upgrade' as mine didn't seem to be working that well. Noticed there wasn't a part number on on one fitted so replaced it with my 'new' upgrade. Jury is still out on that for now. In retrospect the housing also has some sort of valve in it next to the 'oil separator' that I cleaned out too. Should have replaced that also. In my no too worldly wise experience 'Non service' items that should be serviced are anything but. I will be keeping an eye on it, even to th point of maybe fitting the filter supplied with my service kit...Yes, The Original One!!

Crank case breath issues aside I would also do you general service, particularly air, oil AND fuel filter. It is recommended on here that y should only use quality OEM fuel filters. These have a far smaller micron rating and help prevent particles from leaving your tank an destroyed everything forward of of the pressure fuel pump! The cheapest one probably don't an apparently have a tendency to 'collapse' inwardly(so I have been assured) I don't want to mention your injectors but £u@€ it feel obligated to as they are prone to failure if low quality fuel is used(I think I have this problem). Be prepared to step forward to deal with these, should your service not produce any significant results and even if they do then be prepared to do some remedial action on them in th future. Think new ones are £350-00 each depending on where you buy. If you can test them/recondition them then they will be much cheaper. Second hand may give you a solution but you do not know what you are buying.

Forgot to mention that giving th Inlet manifold a 'dig out' may help will sluggishness although I noticed a bug difference in mine straight after, each thing I have done to my car has made some other issues worse overall. Mentioned in another post(blah blah) I intend to sort fuel filter, do a leak back test on injectors and then move forward from there!!
