Ok so as the title suggests, I've just purchased 1965 2a diesel to restore
Was on eBay with a poor advert and terrible pics, paid £515 which I thought was a tad high but it was only 10 miles away.
Anyway. Body stripped and happily the chassis seems ok, needs rear crossmember. N/S bulkhead outrigger and 1 possibly 2 front legs. Other than that it's solid.
Considering i was told it hadn't moved for over 35 years and it had an inch, some places a foot of dirt stuck to it I think that's ok,
Engine not seized and had oil and water in it so will hopefully be ok.
Gearbox/diffs etc condition unknown
Wiring a total mess, most missing so will need to have a new loom if they even exist.
Most body parts needed. Wings and tub totally battered, door tops shot. Want to do a canvas back so sided and roof aren't important anyway.
Bulkhead. Well here's my issue, footwells nasty, top corners nasty. O/S part that meets the screen nasty. Both door pillers shot.
Would you repair or try to replace the bulkhead?? Clocks say 71,000 don't know how genuine, dvla have no records so I need to sort out a V5 but have chassis plate and hopefully the original reg plates.
The fun starts here!!!

Rebuilt bulkheads are available which, even accounting for its cost, would still count you in good stead in terms of a genuine series 2/2a especially if you can do a lot of the work yourself. Sounds like you got a good deal.

Pics would help :D

Was debating wether or not to rebuild it myself, I've got friends who can assist with the welding although I'd like to do it myself. Not welded in years so maybe some practise is in order.

sounds just like the project I acquired a few months ago, a 1968 LHD 2a swb that had been left parked on a farm for the last 20 odd years, i decided to go for a new bulkhead, it was a bit pricey but I reckoned it will last me for the rest of my years. I have no plans of selling my project once its finished.

Not sure if I'll keep mine for a long while or not, I don't really have any use for it and to many other cars already but it's something I've wanted to do for years. Once it's done it might be a different story though

Can't go wrong at that price can you? Even with a new chassis and bulkhead you're not going to lose unless you pay someone to do it all.

Size of that wing mirror! Good for knocking cyclists with :)

Well I actually thought it's to much to pay but since I bought it I've seen a rolling chassis with an engine but no bulkhead etc sell for nearly a grand and the chassis was worse than mine so maybe it wasn't such a bad deal after all,
My chassis is well within the limits of what's repairable, I've certainly seen much worse repaired in the past.

Its already had a rear crossmember renewal by the looks of it at some point. As your not into it for a lot yet you may consider a new galvanized chassis and bulkhead. It will double its price when you come to sell it and if you dont you wont regret it. Its just down to outlay.

The bodywork is perfect :p

That mirror will cost you an extra gallon per mile. :D

Budget doesn't stretch to galvanised unfortunately,
From what I've been told the car was used for towing wrecked cars off a track, this crossmember looks more ripped apart than rotten so wouldn't be suprised if the original had suffered the same issue,
I thought about keeping the mirror, didn't think for long though it's now been scrapped
