Hey all. I am having a problem trying to remove the radio from my 1988 classic vogue.

It's the original radio and was working but isn't now for some reason (the backlights do still light up with the car lights though). Was planning to pull it out and see if I could find out why.

Anyone know what tool I need to get it out? I have a set of radio removal tools/keys that I got for my father's car but don't want to go shoving random ones in and possibly break something (I also assume they're too recent for the radio).

Attached are pics of the radio and tool set. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Sorry could not resist that one...

It will be one of the long thin ones, match the width to the holes either side of the radio, all it's doing is pushing a sprung metal plate away from the radio about inch and half back from the front plate.
Nothing else down here you cam break with one of the tools.

Sooo.... turned out the slots were just to get the surround off and then it was bending a couple of metal tabs to free the radio. Buuuut I then encountered another problem. None of the wires are on connectors, they all go right into the radio case and are soldered in place. Poooooo. Far more hassle than I was expecting so I'm just....going to leave it for now.

You have the same original spec. Clarion radio-cassette that I have in my '87 Vouge & it can be overhauled/repaired by the company for around £60 (5 years ago)
I'm puzzled by the connections as mine has all of them in 2 white plastic multi-connectors. I seem to recall all I had to do in order to remove the unit was to bend back a couple of tabs in the retaining cage.
Suggest you contact Clarion on 01285 861861
I found them very helpful.

Some head units on other cars I've had have had a flying lead with the plugs on them. There aren't plugs further back in the dash are there?

Thanks guys I had another look and you guys were right, there were connectors but they had been jammed behind the cage so I had to take that out to find them. Radio is now completely out.

And thanks for the info norseman, I'll keep that in case I need them. :)
