Brake issue or what?

The car has done 25k in total. The last time the brakes, calipers and the cylinder head were changed was at 21k

Still under warranty until august, and only done 25K miles? I'd be kicking up a fuss - a rather big one - trading standards at the very least....YMMV.

if servo rod is over adjusted brakes are pulled on by the servo this can take a few miles

Right then... So it appears the LR dealer might need a kick up their posterior ( maybe )

@NSSlim - do you fancy going back to the dealer and asking/telling them what to check ???

Yeah.

Though now I'm thinking at least one known issue with Landrover calipers is that when the pistons start to corrode they get 'sticky' and stay on, or not work, which would give your symptoms. I can understand them changing what they did, but can't understand why they didn't change calipers too, or pistons or mention checking them!

I'd suggest removing the calipers, then pads and checking with the help of someone, the brake pistons for corrosion at the seals and piston ends. These can also give inconsistent hard and soft pedals, but then again worn wheel bearings also can make the brakes feel 'odd' ... so I'd also, whilst the wheels are off, check the wheel bearings .. not just by 'feel' but take the hubs off and see what the bearings look like, maybe even replace them and their grease, 'cos there's a chance that a hot disc could 'burn off' any grease within reach of the heat.
its very unlikely calipers

its common now especially if you fit a new m/c or servo, under adjusted pedal is very low ,over brakes pull on you can release them by pulling on the vac feed to release the vac

I once over adjusted a front brake leaver on my xs1100 5mls down the road thought the motor had seized up as it was getting slower ! had to wait 1/2 hr for front discs to cool down ! rode home on back break only

I had assumed (!!) that the dealer (!!!!!!!) knows what they are doing  - I suspect I was wrong, very very wrong o_O. I don't care how much welding I have to do - I am never buying a new car - if they can't fix something "simple" ( and "quite" important ) then they won't be getting any of my money.

IMHO, OP:- take Mr Martins wise words with you back to the dealer, and get them to sort this out !!

Cheers, I replied having had a similar situation but not, I hasten to add, on all four discs mind. I've never heard of brakes pulling on like that, just due to the vacuum and being wrongly adjusted!

Being wrong at least means I've learnt summat as well .. :)

I have a 110 2014 Defender. Last year roughly this time it started to lose power whilst driving. Took it to Landrover who said they couldn't find anything wrong...three weeks later complete brake failure with all brakes literally glowing red hot. Pedal to the floor. Landrover bled brake fluid and changed the master cylinder head and replaced the brakes and discs due to heat distortion.
Today less than 12 months later exactly the same thing has happened. No power in any gear, brakes literally red hot and smoking burning. Has anyone else had an issue like this and is it really likely to be the Master Cylinder head? Was it ever the Master Cylinder head?
New idea from main dealer is that it's the Pedal Box? What do you think?

There's an old saying - "If you want it doing, do it yourself".....;)

Good lucks with, I've a feeling you might need it!

Had a new RR every year until the dealership turned into a bunch of numpties - now we run 20 year old D1's which don't break :p .......

Rot??? oh yes, they do that ;):rolleyes:, but they don't break :p:rolleyes:

Like your reply james ! BUT dont forget it's not long had NEW disc's & pads ! SO if it were mine I would wont another set of disc's & pads & the original problem sorting out !
