Range Rover Vogue 03 - Gear Box

Need some help I'm getting intermittent fault with the car where I can be driving nice for hundreds of miles and then for no reason the car will over Rev and not build any speed.
I took to a gear box specialist that said it was a problem with the control board of the car not the gear box itself? Any ideas guys? I'm not so keen on main dealer due to the wait

Oil level is normal the oil looks a little on the brown side

Brown doesn't sound good at all. It shouldn't be brown, that sounds like overheating.

I'd change the fluid as a matter of urgency and try some of the Lucas transmission fix. Remember the filter as well. However, be ready as it might uncover the issue and it'll go completely.

I had the fault codes read today it said cylinder 3 and 4 mis-fire

Is changing the oil filter and oil something I could do? I'm not mechanically minded but happy to try anything. I can creep down the road in the car but the minute I give it the beans she gets all stuttery and stalls. No engine lights temperature normal

I think you have differing issues here, you need to sort the misfires before venturing further.
Misfire on a petrol V8 could be many things but from experience I'd check for oil welling round the spark plugs and shorting out, usual culprit is failed PCV valve and/or hardened rocker gaskets.

Yes, you can do both transmission oil and engine oil fairly easily. I think @Saint.V8 might have done a How To in the Technical Section.

As myfirstl322 says, you might want to sort the misfire first. That might be harder to fix.

I presumed he was asking if he could do the g/box oil also.
If it's brown it certainly needs changing.

If it's cherry then be merry, if it's brown then drain it down

If it’s cherry then someone has put Dexron in you ZF transmission and its days are numbered as your torque converter lock-up clutch will be trashed. Only put Mobil ATF LT71141 in a 5HP24.
