Well I keep coming across all these mentions of how the Landy heater is Useless / NFG / As warm as a penguins derriere.

Just been driving mine and all I can say is nice and toasty. Decided for the hell of it to stick the pyrometer in front of the drivers knee warming outlet, heater set to AMx , warpdrive set for the fan. Got a reading of 55C. Am not going to complain about that in fact I am one happy bunny.

Cheers

I hate you.

If the engine is warm enough (i.e. if the thermostat is working properly) then the water in the heater matrix should be good and hot, and so if the heater matrix is working properly and the warm air isn't being lost between the matrix and the vents, any defender should be capable of producing pretty warm air. There are a lot of ifs though!

My heater is more than efficient as is my air conditioning due to me driving a discovery or should that be DRIVING A DISCOVERY as some of you may still be a little hard of hearing after driving your tratters:p

This from someone who has gone to the enlightened side....................................Like a newbie Darth Vader.........But in regard to Land Rover products.
There is a reason some of us, drive a D2 and a tratter. ..........................Cos we are doubly stupid...................:oops::oops:

Cheers

The one on my 90 was brilliant, the 110 isnt as good but still does the job.

One thing is everyone says Fender AC is awful, mine, from limited use is excellent. Gets as cold as my old fiesta just 10x louder

The problem with my 110 TD5 in the cold weather is not the heater, which blows nice and hot when the engine has got up to temperature, but the time it takes for the engine to warm up before said heater will deliver the goods.

I shall one day drive a discovery and a series 2a:D

Mine was pumping out nice and hot air too, trouble is the lever was set to cold! Bloody thing.
P.s. Cooling system is fine, just need to do some cable adjustments!
Ha! I had the same problem today and the heater fan was off

I've been driving my mother in laws VW Golf after a trip to the airport to take my daughter to her flight back t college. We, she and I, hate the fact that the Golf has no access to any form of clean fresh air without having a window open:(. At least with my own Defender, even without heat, we can always rely on a good, readily available clean fresh air :p

See, the heater matrix is new, the pipes are good, the fan works ... it's the bloody flap in the bottom that directs warm air that (also) doesn't work in mine.

We drilled it apart, 'fixed' it, but it's done nothing good since! I reckon all it needs is proper time spent on it, not the 1/2 hour we took .... ;)

It did work when I very first got it, the original issue came when I took off the side panel to fit a snorkel and the foam padding/sealer around the connections just disintegrated, and we didn't replace it, so it's not really the 90's fault .. ;) Oh and the regular soakings when off-roading or green laning .. the fan is now a tad sluggish ...

Of all the cars I've owned over the past 45 years, the heater on my series 3 is the worst I've ever known. It takes a special kind of design engineer to make something that bad. Well done whoever you are.
