Morning all,
I am finding it very difficult to find an answer to this question. I have been offered a very clean L322 3.6 TDV8 with 130k. It has a good history and I can secure it at trade (7500) via a friend in the business. It came in as a trade-in and he retails much more expensive Range Rovers so this is not his type of stock. It was first registered on 29/09/2007. The question is how likely the turbo's are to fail, and if they do is it a body off job for this model year and, therefore, what's the approximate cost. It seems to be a great price and an opportunity not too miss as its time to get out of my P38. Any advice?
Many thanks as ever,
C.
Please excuse typo 1322!

How long is a piece of string? And don't say two times half its length!!

If they are maintained corrected they will last aslong as anyother turbo unit.

On the L322 it is not a body off job, but you will neend to drop the front subframe and lower the engine out the bottom to get to them from what I have read previously.

The 4.4 TDV8 is the better unit, but the 3.6 is better than the Td6 it replaced!! Check the maintenance records closely and ensure the oil and servicing periods have been met, any holes in the records will need to be investigated. and do frequent oil changes to ensure it is clean and free from carbon debris that will lunch the turbo bearings.

Take the intercooler hoses off and run your finger inside the hoses as deep as you can, and also the top of the intercooler too, a slight oil-ing is common but lots of oil is a worry and could mean the turbo seals/bearings or on their way south.

Replacement turbos will set you back more than you want to think about.

Turbo's on TDV8 can be done without body off, engine out or sub frame being dropped, but it is easier to do the one on the left bank with the sub frame dropped. Turbo failure is normally accompanied by EGR failure. I would get fault codes read to see if there are any codes that indicate any problems on the horizon. Plenty of TDV8's out there with over 130k on the clock and still on original turbo's without any problems. At £7.5k I would go for it if it is good condition, but it is about £3k for new turbo's if you can't do them yourself

Well this has me slightly worried! Me mums 07 L322 3.6 v8 has just gone to the garage for an EGR fault (causing rough running on a cold start) i bloody hope the turbos are alright
