The wiper mechanism has been clanking away for some time on the '99 FL1 so I took it off to examine it.
Found the linkage sockets (and therefore possibly the drive ball ends too ) worn along with the plastic cup washers which are split and worn . Greased them thoroughly but no good .
Options are a second hand unit complete or these,
FREELANDER 1 WIPER MOTOR LINKAGE PUSH RODS.1997-2006 | eBay

Has anyone fitted these linkages , I see none have been sold according to their listing .

Hi there Mr Dan,

Before spending a pile of cash - try these:

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

They are very clever brilliant little bits of kit. :D

I've fitted them to several cars and have recommended them to friends for a couple of years with great results.

Some folks leave the noise until the linkage drops off - and then these things still do a good repair.

Note the guys feedback of 100% - he just keeps re-listing and has sold loads of them - must be worth a try.

Good luck.

Thank you SGVL........
They look fit for purpose so I've just bought three to try.
I can't understand why they didn't show up on any of the searches I did.
I'll post a reply once fitted.
Thanks again ........

Mine went, I think it was the longer one which affected the passenger side wiper. I just turned it round and it worked fine. Gravity now keeping it in place! Been fine for a couple of years!!!!!

Unfortunately the one that failed on mine was the one on the motor arm so either a complete new mechanism or the much cheaper clip :) Carried out a temp repair by drilling through the the socket into the ball and screwing in a self tapper with flat washer, worked OK but prefer the clip.

I was lucky enough to come across a genuine part on eBay which someone had bought from a main stealer and never fitted (complete with new scuttle clips) for next to nothing. But before that I just used a few cable ties to hold it together, just looped over & together to brace it. Worked like that for ages.

Well , fitted these and although I was a little sceptical they seem to have tightened up and eliminated the racking noise from the linkage .
Only tried it in the dry but even with washers on they seem much much quieter .
Result , thanks again Singvogal

hi I bought a set of wiper linkage just over a year ago for my free lander Td4 MK1 2003 from Amazon and the left hand link is worn already :(
Now a few months ago I changed the gear linkage of my daughters Peugeot 106 and kept the old parts.
now needing my landy for work the next day and knowing it was going to rain and I had to wait 24 for a new linkage
a light bulb lit up in my head I sot out the gear linkage and found that the longest rod was just ever so slightly longer
than the wiper linkage worn. So I said what the hell and tried it and to my great pleasure it worked a treat ...!!
I had to adjust the blades so they would not touch and wipe the full screen but all works fine. So guys if your stuck
and can get to a scrap yard there is the answer and if you really want you can extend or shorten the rods to suit both
sides. Hope this helps ...:)
