Good afternoon all,
Without removing the thermostat, is it possible to change the o ring on the metal pipe going into it.
I have a leak in this area, so think the o ring has perished.
Any advice welcome thanks.

I'm assuming you are talking about the TD4 engine.
It is possible to replace the O ring. You can either move the pump or move the pipe. Neither way is easy but both doable. I would move the pump myself, changing it and the thermostat at the same time.

Yes Nodge it's a TD4. I've got a pump and thermostat, and I've been reading a guide someone posted online, but it seems a nightmare of a job to change everything. There's not much room to get at the pump bolts, that's why I hoped the pipe could be moved, to change the o ring only.

The problem is the pipe that needs to be moved to access the O ring is almost as difficult to move as the pump. I figured it's better to do a replacement of old components, if that much work is needed anyway.

The metal pipe is bolted to the back of the engine, if you can get the bolt near the thermostat out you should be able to do it without removing the thermostat.
I find removing the pump/thermostat assembly together easier than just the thermostat. It's not a hard job to do, just takes a bit of time the first one you do.

How on earth do you get at the pump bolts. Will the engine mounts have to come off to give a bit more room?

get it on a jack with wood in between so not to damage sump and then take the engine mount off including the bottom drivers (Right) side off then you can move the engine up and down but before that undo the metal pipe that is connected to the back of the engine it is a pig of a job so make a good job of it.

The pump that I bought is a Britpart pump, and I don't know whether to fit it or get a better make. I've seen one online made by Fahren at a reasonable price, but don't know much about this brand. Any info appreciated thanks.

I chickened out and had the job done for me. I scrapped the britpart pump and bought a ruville pump, what a difference in quality. I also had the clutch changed while while it was in the workshop.
