I have the above disco, have been having an intermittent gear box fault, auto gear box, no errors on display.

When in drive it some times looses gears, if I wiggle the gear leaver it will drive, today I lost all forward gears, reverse was ok, called AA, but before they arrived I selected drive and it went.

I did leave the sun roof open last year and we had the biggest down pour for years, when I opened the door in the morning to go to work I had about 4 inches of water in the car, front and back, have dried it out now but wondered if the water has affected any thing in the gear lever housing, I did loose satnav but that is ok now but my radio has no display and wont switch off due to water getting in, thought this may be my gear box problem as well?????????????? Any sugestions before I take it to garage?

Does the lever feel stiff when you select drive?
Not normaly, but when I loose the gears it is difficult to select drive and button on the left of hazard lights flashes.

welcome

as @sierrafery has said , give the contacts a good spray

also , have u pulled off the centre instrument panel off, to see if there's any dampness in there

also with behind the passenger side fuse box, is that all dry

both sides on the door sills, lift the carpets and u will see channels where the wires sit in , make sure the water hasn't collected there , remove the sill covers and can peel back the edge

hope u get on ok

also as @biggeeeee has suggested , well worth to get the faults read,

good investment to buy a iid diagnostic, they are £420 and worth every penny , pay for them selves very quickly

why would you need a laptop while everything is doable with the vehicle's LCD screen?

Not all models are fitted with the SAT NAV screens just SE's and above and there is no way to tie into it.
The small lcd panel in the speedo is very limited in characters.
You can see the capability of the tool above in garys post with screenshots taken from his phone
The consensus of opinion is to go with the BT version.

imagine it would be very difficult to do everything via the lcd screen , i.e. trying to set up the suspension ??

this bit is from the web site , so i assume the bt version does more

In addition to using the regular integrated interface, the IIDTool Pro and IIDTool BT fitted with a Bluetooth Smart module can be connected to a mobile device. This interface allows for more in-depth diagnostic capabilities and added functionality. Currently supported devices are:

  • iPad Mini, all
  • iPad 3rd generation onward
  • iPhone 4S onward
  • iPod Touch 5 onward
  • Android devices fitted with a Bluetooth V4.0 transceiver and running on Android 4.3 or higher. Low cost generic devices rarely work.

Would be a nightmare to try and read the fault codes on the small screen especially if there were more than one.
For the sake of £70 more I would always recommend the BT version.
Saw a few on the 3 forum who bought the non BT but wanted to sell it and buy the BT version

also thinking about it, u have to get out of the vehicle to set up the. suspension so imagine it would be very difficult to set up with a non bt version

think virtually everyone goes with the bt version for that reason

totally agree in what ur saying the bt version is the one to go for

didn't realise u could do it through the centre satnav screen

assumed it was only the small dashboard screen or external devices like a phone , i use my ipad which i find perfect

large enough screen

I read it wrong in the first instance, you cant use the SAT NAV screen its just the 'Info Centre' between the Speedo and the Rev counter that gets used
