Power front seat fixed

Hi All

Just thought I'd post this as a simple fix for electric seat issues like mine;

Got my Disco back in May and although the seats all seemed to work on the test drive a few days later when I went and paid for it on driving away the drivers seat had all the adjustment other than back and forth and the passenger one was totally lifeless.

It wasn't a major issue so I took my time to sort them out. The total lack of power to the passenger seat was due to a failed relay under the seat. Very easy to fix just take care to get the right part.
The drivers seat took a bit longer. Searched the forums and learnt about the switch issues so dismantled them and cleaned all to no avail.
Checked all the connections underneath and found no issues so yesterday evening I embarked on removing the seat to allow for a good look at the motors underneath. By the time I had the seat out it was too dark to continue so round 2 was this evening.
By turning the screws I managed to move the seat back and forth so powered it up using a spare battery and it moved.......a bit. Then stopped. Wound it by hand and it moved a bit more. Got me thinking about wither the runners were a bit jammed, couldn't see anything amiss but sprayed the screw and runners with GT85 and got a whole lot more movement than before. Put the seat in a postion to allow the lube to run down the runners all the way, left it for 20 minutes and when I tried again with the battery total movement!
Hurray problem solved! All fitted back and trim replaced as darkness fell. Job done. Now feeling very satisfied at the results of my efforts (I'm no mechanic or electrician - just do some research take my time to look at how things work and hopefully!).:)
 
I am new to Discovery (2000MY TD5 ES), and need to do this job too. Amongst other things (now its through an MOT).
i don't have backwards or forwards drive, only the other two adjustments on the drivers seat. passenger seat has all functions, including seat heater.

how's the D3 been going by the way

the front electric seats are indeed good fun

i've upgraded mine from manual to electric, done the drivers one, just got to now do the passenger seat

got to strip all the covers off and swap them over

can't believe how heavy the seats are

found taking the bolts out, putting some coppaslip onto the threads help , running the bolts through the treads gets rid of junk off the treads

know the seats can be kind of fun messing around with them

is urs also a D3
 
Back and forth operation fixed on mine now.
I removed the seat, and eventually figured out the power lead had semi dropped one of its pins out. Reworked the plug, and it works again. Thankful it was a relatively easy and free fix for a change! I will stick some pics up later, that may be useful to others.
 
Have upgraded to D3 now but the lubrication fix didn't last on the TD5. Motor was obviously on its way out and I waited ages for a used motor to pop up on ebay. Once fitted seat really was good as new.

New D3 is a different league to the Disco 2 in every way but can be scary in terms of the number of things that can go wrong and associated cost of putting it all right!

at first i was also worried about things going wrong

think the D3 is like many other landy , in doing preventive servicing it does seem to cut down considerably on not having to worry about things

so how u getting on with ur D3 plse

did u get ur iid in the end ??
 
Yes Gary, got the iid yesterday. Did a calibration of the suspension heights as mine was lopsisded. Got it pretty much level now, will give it another go when i get time.

When you planning on taking out the roof lining on yours? I could probably come and give you a hand 11th or 12th of this month?

Did you get your oil pump looked at? I need to check mine out before I go to Belgium next month.

glad all is well. u will be surprised in what that thing will do

not being rude but can show u through all its settings if u wish

the 11-12th would be fantastic please , will grab any day i can if i'm honest

will be good to at least get the liner out, so i can then spend a week or how ever long it takes for me to get the old airbags out and new ones in

wondering about storage of the headliner, maybe up the stairs , in the hall, or out the back under cover ????

ref the oil pump

got all my cam belts replaced, at the same time got replaced,

rear belt
tensioners
oil pump
water pump
aux belt

so that's a god job out of the way and really pleased

u can see, in the second pic of the old leaking oil pump

Did you have one of the suspect pumps on your car?

I'll let you know next week, see what the weather is looking like too. Might have to bring a dog with me if it's going to take us all day.

it's reported that they break after 2007 , however it seems it doesn't matter what year

the corner breaks off or the seals go

even @biggeeeee also had his one go

bless u ref the weekend , of course i understand if ur free or not

it goes without question that ur more than welcome to bring ur dog

what breed have u got please , ur dog can play with my two if u wish and ok with that

can leave the kitchen door open so they can go in and out at there pleasure

The usual problem is to do with the casting, the webbing between two of the bolt holes is poor and gives way.
Mine was a bit different in that the previous owner had fitted aftermarket parts and the interference fit between the crankshaft seal and oil pump housing was non existent.

to this day land rover havent accepted any responsibility for the weak oil pump casing

heard some horror stories where engines being destroyed

thinks its always better to get it checked and replaced as required, peace of mind
 
Geoff said I should strip down front of engine so I can take a photo of the Oil pump and he will tell me if it should be changed or not.

there is a citroen oil casing

it i may say , better to keep with oem parts

so if there's any come back it will be better to have genuine land rover parts fitted

they are £220 , worth every penny , considering what a new engine would cost

geoff and flack from the D3 forum done mine and must say, they know there engines , extremely skilled at there jobs

can't recommend them enough
