Well the day at work went ok, but by the time I got outside daylight was fading. The temperature was on my side though - wet flattting the side of a Land Rover with a constant running hose, wet through arms, one leg and both feet in a puddle of water for just over an hour in October, in a t-shirt. A recipe for man flu usually but Checked the temp and 12 degrees Long may this continue! Not worth a picture - I've probably put one on before anyway

Well, had the afternoon off and the sun is shining is South East Derbyshire so thought Id better get this lot lacquered. Tip - don't mix new and old laquer. I had some left in my last tin that was fine last week but today something was different and I just could not for the life of me get this stuff to go on flat so put it down to using the last 100ml of an old tin and 200ml of a new one. Still, doesn't really matter because I will flat and buff anyway. Here's the N/S rear, note the B pillar in the background.



This won't be required for a long time but as the follower if this thread knows, I like to have spare panel or two in case of having paint left over.

One of the 'Gun-flaps' as my FIL calls them! With a massive dent int middle, just for the hell of it.


And painted this side, despite not knowing if I'll use it or use the series one its sat on.


It's touch dry now and all the paintwork so far is done. No more celly! Next job is to fit the screen, make a rear door and get back to welding up the other doors.

Getting there, read the whole thread from start to finish, Your working in my kinda timeframe as well of it gets done when its gets done lol.. Real good painting there esp the conditions your doing it in, I was under the impression 2k didn't need lacquer? Im jealous of the sheet bender as well! gonna have to google how to make one of those babies!

Hey Robbie, thanks for taking the time to read. I'm really trying to push on with it now, been almost two years and I feel that it's starting to hold up the other 99% of my life. Next time there is quite a bit of stuff I'll do differently or sub out. Sheet benders are really easy to make, this was just put together from some scrap. With the paint, you can buy 2k primer, 2k colour and 2k clear. I use 2k primer then a basecoat which is just single part paint, thinned to your requirements, then 2k clear. I reckon the pics always make it look better on here, and for some reason when you really really want a good finish you can't get one and when it's something you aren't that bothered about it comes out great. My pedal boxes came out better than the quarter panel I did last week.

Well, here's this evenings work. 8 hinges in zinc primer. These are all new cheap hinges from paddocks. I didn't want the td5 ones as I prefer the look of the original but that's not done me any favours so far.....

Anyway, I put these in the vice and drifted the pins out, then took the files to them to remove all the rough edges, drilled a hole in each one that just overlaps the hole for the pin then tapped to m6. The frame side of the hinge has a small notch filed out to accommodate the head of the grease nipple when the door is closed. I considered trying to install a nylon washer in every hinge but think that's a step too far. If these last 2 years I'll be happy. I'll get some colour on them tomorrow but the laquer will have to wait until there's a few more panels to do. In fact, I won't bother painting them tomorrow, they can wait because I've also flattened the n/s quarter panel this evening, ready for its meeting with the cutting compound so that will soon be nice and shiny. One of my favourite jobs

Yes it's really been that long. 4 entire months since I last posted anything. I've not been sitting on my backside the whole time though. Besides working almost non-stop and having a hectic Christmas etc, I've had a couple of hours here and there in the 110. All my re-painted panels are now fitted back on, I bought a set of sliding windows for the back, my exhaust is all sorted and I'm running as a 200di (not bothered about going fast). I have also lacquered my door hinges so as to be able to use them to fit the doors for alignment. I had many photos but my phone broke so I lost them so when the weather improves I'll take more.
My main headache though, without a shadow of a doubt, has been the doors. I bought the bottom repair sections ages ago and the drivers door has been done for a while but the passenger door was worse than first thought.

Here's what I've had to work with, not pretty.

A few pics of some new metal going in;
I have made up the door strap bracket as original, trying to get that curved piece right can be a faff trying to make it out of one piece of steel so resorted to two bits.

The bottoms are repair section bought in but the sides are what I bent up myself;


The near finished door. I bought the window lower section from yrm on Monday because it's near impossible to make at home with a basic bender.



The ends of the angled sections that support the lock mechanism. I will chop these back out and redo because they're crap and let it down, no the whole door just wants a good going over and a few bits of weld just tarting up before I paint it. I also need to weld back in place the lower door card brackets. Two down, two to go.

Thanks Gatso, I did consider it but I just thought when they dip them they might fall to bits, I'll decide when I've done the rears.

Some fantastic fabrication there.

Cheers fellas, glad you think so. The Repairs are improving so by the time I've done door number 4 I may be tempted to improve door 1 but with that mentality it will never be finished.

I like shiny stuff and I like galv and what I like most of all is cheap so when I picked this little lot up this morning on my way home from work I was very happy indeed. obviously the discovery tank guards have no place on the 110 but as I had them and they were solid I thought may as well have them done at the same time. In fact, I also don't need any of the spring seats, the rear ARB brackets or two of the crossmembers (yet) but it makes the job better value and they will come in useful in the future (I might add that any more projects will be a lot better planned than this one was). Oh and in case anyone wants to know - £30 for that little lot which I thought was an absolute bargain.

This afternoon, to celebrate nothing whatsoever, I decided to prime this Wheel. Not important but when the sun is on in my spray booth I like to use the opportunity. Can't wait to have these wearing some nice 235 85's and sitting under the car but I'll resist the temptation to fit them until all bodywork is complete.
