Hi Guys,
My question is, Do I need to replace the entire ECU, keys, lock and ignition barrel just because I need a new body control unit??
I was told that the body control kit wouldn't work without replacing the whole damn lot as there is no one locally who can reprogram the Body control unit, is this fact?
Many thanks is advance.

Sorry guys I thought my landys details would have carried forward.. it's at 02 plate freelander es td4.
Have I basically been conned then??

The faults I have are that some of the buttons on the dashboard have stopped working. E.g. The fog lamp (can't do an ecu reset) the tailgate window, central locking, rear washer and wiper. The tailgate won't open. The window mechanism doesn't work (it's brand new). But it did go into the down position when the battery was disconnected and reconnected. So it's getting power. The lock doesn't activate under any circumstance except manually by pulling down the solenoid.

I have checked all the wiring and continuity is good between the blocks and terminals. I have checked the earths and all the fuses. I've even double checked all the relays and they appear to be fine but have ordered new ones anyway.

After discussion with an electrician who's dealt with land rovers (not freelanders) he suggested maybe corrosion on the cpu. So I took the fuse box out and in the black box on the rear one of the transistors was gummed up with purple corrosion. I cleaned it, redid the solder and put it back in. The board looked a bit scored in some places otherwise ok.
So I wanted to replace it just in case. When I tried to buy one, the guy on the phone said it would need reprogrammed to the vehicle as the keys wouldn't work nor the push button fob for the locks.

The only thing I've done to the freelander since getting it on the road is replace the stereo with a modern one that only uses half the wires leaving quite a few redundant. I got the wiring diagram from a post on here and the stereo is working fine. But I did see that the stereo could affect other things.... but I don't know why it would stop half the dashboard switches working or the tailgate lock.... so have temporarily ruled that out...
I haven't dislodged anything at the back of the switches in the dashboard as I have double checked.

I've double checked everything I can think of, but suggestions are very welcome.

I couldn't get the rave manual to load on my laptop after downloading it from the post in the forum on her either...

Very many thanks for your input, it's very gratefully received!!

If everything the the CCU controls is messing about, the it could be faulty. It's pretty unusual though as they are generally reliable.
From memory, only the remote locking fobs are programmed to the CCU. The CCU does the locking, so receives the fob code to do that. I think it's programmed to the alarm ECU, but I could be wrong.
If it is all coded together, you would need a following bits. The engine ECU, the alarm ECU, the keys for the transponders, the remote fobs and the CCU itself.

You can replace a CCU on its own for that age of car

Just need to get remotes programmed to it and make sure you get the correct part number CCU as they changed at 2001MY so you need the later one

Check the part number of your current one and get one the same or later

Thanks for that, I have ordered the new parts to replace the whole thing. Hopefully that should get to the bottom of all the issues. If it doesn't then I'll be asking the question on here again!

Ok. I have fitted the new ecu and that's cured all my electrical problems. However.. I now have to replace alarm sensor, the immobiliser module and receiver....where are they located??

How do I access the receiver, do I have to remove the dashboard?? And thank you for your help!
I discovered one of the units in the head lining at the rear of the sun roof, sadly I have now partly wrecked the lining...so p***** off... looks awful now...

To add to the misery. There's no need to touch the roof sensor. It's not coded and would work fine with new alarm.

You need to remove the dash top. It's held on with clips if I remember correctly.
Plenty of videos on youtube to remove that
Edit:
The receiver isn't coded either so there's no need to mess with that.

Ahh FFS!!! I don't sodding believe it... wrecked the roof for nothing..I did check the unit and it looked exactly the same right enough...the two units are in the pic attached, do both of these have to be installed?? And these are the Ines that go behind the dash and radio??

The radio is just that, a radio. There's no need to touch that unless yours is faulty. The alarm ECU is buried at the back of the dash, just right of the stereo. It's very difficult to get at and generally needs most of the dash removed to find it. It is coded to the keys and engine ECU.

Any ideas where to start with the dash removal? I'll take a look on you tube, I've only found how to remove the centre or ground console so far...

The fog lamp (can't do an ecu reset) the tailgate window, central locking, rear washer and wiper. The tailgate won't open. The window mechanism doesn't work. I am wondering that if ı change my ecu will problems fixed? And must ı programmed ecu again? Also ı must add the older owner my card told me that he made immo of, and my immo doesn't work now.
