Well it's a first for me, got my first 1.8 petrol freelander 4 door , my other 3 have all been diesel, this one has the rear prop removed just like the other ones i have had, but the throttle response is loads quicker and i mean loads, everything seems to work as it should, no problems at all, but this is very early in the relationship, will keep posted as things go wrong he he he

The 1.8K is a pretty spritely car - certainly no sports car, but it runs really nicely - even with the props fitted :)

Any plans to return it to AWD?

My Mrs has just bought her first Land Rover, its a Freelander td4, 3 door. It runs really nicely, (for a Land Rover), and it does approx 100 to 140 miles a night travelling across Leicestershire as she is a district nurse. The Immobaliser was playing up, so I put a new battery in the remote. That cured the fault 99% of the time, but very rarely the Immobaliser will not turn off and reset. If you lock it up and come back about 20 minutes later it starts up perfectly. I have had it plugged in and it shows no fault codes, but who wants to be stuck in the middle of no where at 3 o'clock in the morning in a temporarily dead Freelander? Also does anyone know where you can get a parcel shelf for a 3 door Freelander??

Probably worth your own thread!

Immobiliser may be a failing IR pickup.

Parcel shelves are as rare as rocking horse poo. You need to keep your eye on eBay or do a lot of ringing around breakers yards - if the seller knows its value, it won't be cheap.

Rimmers have some black parcels shelfs - new, and in stock as I recall. Since they cost more than I paid for my car, and it's the wrong colour anyway, I haven't gone out of my way to buy one ;)

I always liked my K series Freelanders, (had two) but didn't like them 2wd. I found they under steered badly and spun the wheels very easily, but that might have been my heavy right foot and bad driving :p.
Keep an eye on the coolant the watch for mayo on the dipstick and it'll last for years.

I find mine accelerates rather like a concrete block, but that is compared to much faster cars previously, however I can't bear to sell it or ruin it fitting an L series so look out for a "I'm fitting lpg" thread.....

You've never driven an L series then if you thing the K series is slow.
The lpg would cost more than the car is worth. Also I believe lpg makes engines run hotter which is the last thing you need on a K series.

I know the heat is an issue, being a gas engineer I'm fitting it myself, £300 all in for the kit. Currently sorting bits to fit proper oil and water temp gauges, the vw coolant bottle and if needed an oil cooler to give me a fighting chance with the lpg. I can also tune the ecu to run a mix of lpg and petrol so should be able to keep the temps down

If not I will sell it and buy a dies.....

Maybe not, I mean it's only £60 to do 400 miles

£60 today but what about next week.
If you were able to document the work and post here you'd be very popular. ;) Quite a few folk (including my Mrs) were happy with petrol apart from the thirst.

More than happy to do that, will be slow going until the lighter evenings due to limited weekend free time but I've ordered a load of bits for the prep work and will be doing that soon, temp sensors and gauges, will do same time as coolant bottle to save wasting too much coolant and remote oil filter to move it away from the exhaust, this then makes fitting a cooler easier

If you want to fit LPG, then look at cooling and lubrication. I'd fit the PRT thermostat and flush the rad. Also use fully synthetic oil for the engine and make sure you use an additional upper cylinder lubricant with the gas. This will give you a fighting chance of keeping it working as it should;)

well it is the same engine as they put in the lotus and when I drive the wife freelander 1800 I find it that first gear awesome and it takes a lot of beating

would be interested in a step by step guide and a comparison on mpg results, my 1.8 does about 260 miles to tank/ £50 refill on a daily 40 mile round trip to work
