No drive in 2wd... 88 diesel

I've got a 1981 series 3, 88" diesel with over drive. But I've got no drive in 2wd. It will drive in 4wd both high and low? Any suggestions??

one of your rear half shafts snapped, in 2wd in gear does rear prop rotate

Had exactly that on my old 76 ser 3

Yes the prop shaft into the rear diff is spinning.. which points to the half shaft theory. Is there an easy way of finding out which one or are they both the same?

Take em both out. One will have a big sharp pointy end. The rest of it will be in bits in the axle waiting to mash the diff up.

Lift up the back - the wheel that goes round on its own with no resistance and a grindy noise will be the one with the broken shaft. Or pull the shafts out. The shafts and diff will have to come out to get all the bits out anyway...
