Hi,

I used my new Icarsoft diagnostic tool today and it gave me lots of live information such as Torque converter clutch 0% then 74.15% with Throttle valve 37.66% . All reads good information to have but how do I find out what it all means?
Two things that worried me was the different speeds of the two front wheels whilst keeping a steady speed in a straight line?
and
Potentiometer reading 318 deg?

Anybody any information to help.

All the best

Mark

Learn how to use it, read the instructions that came with it. Read up on your car, find out what should be and what should not be. No easy way i am afraid.
Have you got one of these? If so did you get a manual that actually tells you anything? I go a manual that tells me nothing other than basics.
I am reading up on my model all the time.
I thought this forum was perhaps an easier way to to get through a lot of information that others that have already read /done it and then in turn be helpful to others when I can do so?
If you cant help why bother posting?

I bought one and it took me a few goes to figure out how to get the live stream up. The manual really is a crock of ****. The other thing I discovered is the live stream can't be stored or fed to a computer.

Kinda makes you wonder what the point is since you can't watch it while driving.

As for the forum, it is really helpful when a helpful person responds. When it's Wappers responding don't wish for too much.

wow, 7 posts into the thread and peeps are bitching at each other already. . . . . . but the two original questions are not very clear without details of the readings.

1. How different are the wheel speeds ?
2. What potentiometer is at 318deg ?

Yes the iCarsoft 930 manual is crap and doesn't provide any details, but it does give cheap access to diagnostic data which can then be compared against what the vehicle should read. Plenty of real detail on here and other sites about what the data readings should be.

Different wheel speeds ? perfectly acceptable. slightly different tyre pressures will do that one.

Great - i checked the tyre pressures after you replied - one of them down to 21PSI. Will check tyres and fill to correct pressures tommorow. Thank you. another bit of useful info to store.

Thanks for reply. I was lucky I had someone to drive whilst I just sat and read info etc. I wondered if there was a way to store info on to a computer?
I just took photos of all screens shots then download as PDF to read later. Maybe thats a good idea for others? Glad you agree about the manual.
Going to wait and see who else replies - we may learn more. Hopefully Wappers may surprise you and come up with something.
Thanks for reply

Ok smart arse you tell him all about it. It is better he learns himself. Rather than parrot fashion from someone like you who knows sod all about anything.

The two original readings - these are all I have that I can give you. They are the readings from the Icarsoft screen - the screen showed 4 readings -
Shift solenoid 2 - off
Shift solenoid 3 - off
Throttle Valve 37.66%
Torque converter Clutch - 74.15%

I do not know what they mean.

The wheel speeds - Right 42Mph and left 21Mph

The potentiometer reading - this was on another screen with 4 readings
torque limit -100%
raw potentiometer reading - 4.34v
potentiometer reading - 218 deg
current rating - oA

I agree the Icarsoft is a cheap first stage access tool. Once I get more knowledge I will buy a better one but its a great start for a beginner if i can find and understand what it is telling me.

Thanks

With wheel speeds that different you would expect the ABS to kick in when the brakes were applied. May also effect traction control.

Don't know the capabilities of your diagnostic but I had a problem with a few dash lights on the Discovery 3, when the codes were read it showed a fault with rear offside wheel speed sensor. This seemed intermittent for a while and the live data seemed ok, however it became worse until Live data on my reader showed

Is it possible you have a faulty sensor? I would have thought had you had such a speed difference you would feel it when motoring?

I would guess that the potentiometer reading is from the transfer box shift motor which tells the controller what range you are in. Is there any indication at all from the diagnostic software that this is what it relates to?

HI,
The Icarsoft tool is telling me that ? But is it correct? Brakes work fine No ABS / traction control kicking in. Maybe a sensor fault? Thats the information I am wanting to find out ? Thanks for reply.

HI,

I looked at my pics / pdf of screen shots - its the transfere box readings. So my guess is the 318 deg is the position of the potentiometer and not degree Centigrade.!!! So what does it mean? If this is faulty does that make me think the torque converter / transmission is slipping / faulty?
Thanks for taking the time to download these pics and info.

That is the 64,000 dollar question. The ABS works when it detects a wheel or wheels slowing down at a different rate than the others, and therefore losing grip. It will then pulse the brake on that/those wheels off and on to prevent lockup and maintain control. If one wheel is revolving twice as fast as the other it should be telling the ABS ECU something one would think. The traction control works in the other sense, if it detects a wheel spinning faster than the others it considers that wheel has lost traction. It will then pulse the brake on that wheel to slow it and send drive to the none spinning wheel. I don't know how accurate a what is after all a cheap as chips diag unit is, it will have certain limitations. If you are not having problems in normal driving and the dash has no fault messages i would suspect the diag readings as being incorrect. Some one like SaintV8 will know more about the L332 than i do. But it does seem strange.
