A bit ;) At least the majority of the work's now done on the wagon, anyhow. Now all I have to do is find someone willing to lend me the use of a hellishly expensive single-purpose tool to replace the damn ball joints, and it'll be 'job done'. Gods, the LR tool designed for the job is close to a grand?! Wow. I may invest in a tons-worth of C clamp-like affair if I can't find someone with the LR tool in the short term!

I'm going to make my third button lower the suspension for easy access with the dogs.

Don't mind the badge, plus the 218bhp V6 diesel helped persuade me over a Disco :p


Ball joints on the front are knocking but had that as an advisory on the mot so probably my fault for not pushing hard enough to get them changed.
Quoted £650 from local independent to get them both done.

Sat nav disc doesn't work, dealer said he would change it but in the end got a 2012 disc online for £29.99 so sort of fixed that myself.

Starter was slow to turn over so replaced the battery and still seems slow. Starts everytime but just seems slow.

Finally cd charger has stopped playing cd's. rang dealer and said if it doesn't sort itself out he will swap the headunit over (built in multi changer).

Does mean a 170 mile round trip to get it sorted.

Just it sure if it's enough to get into a heated discussion and demand my money back or just accept it's a 9 year old luxury 4x4 and there's gonna be niggles.

Btw the are known for getting through suspension bushes and ball joints reasonably quickly so not an unusual fault. Plus it's running 20" wheels.

think like everything, when u buy a second hand motor they come with problems

depends how much ur willing to take on

sounds like a nice engine as well

seems on all heavy motors they eat brakes and suspension bushes etc

even worse it seems fuel prices will be going up again the new year, know i couldn't afford to use mine as a daily runner

how have u found it, comparison wise, in fuel, ins, tax etc plse
 
Yes that was what I was thinking too.
Thing is did my reasearch and tried to use my head not my heart to buy.
Turned down a 09 facelift model with the xenon's, heated rear seats and newer stereo. I loved the car but interior was a mess thanks to the previous owners dog.

This one seemed to tick the boxes, in good condition, correct colour and the dealer was a Jeep specialist.

Looking on eBay can get lower arms for around half the price the independent garage quoted, so that'll save some money as long as I get quality items.

The engine has got a lot of grunt, 3.0l V6 turbo diesel, 218bhp and around 400ft/lb of torque!
Plus remap pushed it up to 265bhp and over 500ft/lb!!! :O

Yes I was expecting that really, dealer agreed to replace the brake pads as they were low.
Also to swap the 18's for a set of factory 20's he had on another Jeep.

It's the missus new daily to keep her ST clean and low mileage so she can worry about the fuel lol.

Well it's an £8k car so I'm guessing that puts it in D3 early SE territory?
Think it wins on toys, being American it has everything as standard.
Double din headunit with sat nav and 6 disc built in.
Heated, electric leather seats with driver memory function which is linked to the keys (me and missus have one each so when one key it put in it changes the seat, mirrors and computer functions to that user.
Duel climate, sunroof, cruise control, follow me home headlights, electric folding mirrors (handy as they are over a foot wide!)
Also beats LR on performance plus sale 3.5t towing.

4wd system is pretty good too as it has proper permanent 4wd with switchable low range and automatic electronic locking front and rear diffs.

As for fuel think we are getting around 25mpg at the moment which I don't think is too bad considering the weight and the occasional use of the grunt.
Insurance was £500 but neither of use had any ncb to add to the policy so don't think that's too bad. Will drop a lot after a year.
Tax is over £500 a year as post 2006 vehicle.

For me I think apart from the badge the main things I prefer on the D3 are the higher boot and heated front screen. But apart from that overall I think the Jeep is a pretty dam good car really.

I do think it's a smart looking truck. Was worried the wheels on look tacky but actually in black I think they work really well.
Brabus were employed by Jeep to provide extras from factory like they do for Mercedes.
Was branded as Startech and these are the wheels they made for the Grand Cherokee.

think the main thing is if ur happy with the car

agree the yank cars do seem to come with all the extras as standard

ref parts , i've always gone for oem parts on engine, suspension and brakes, so at least u know it's not a cheap imported part

i bought mine for more than half that , issues with suspension etc.but nothing i can't sort out

knew what it needed , like all land rovers we end up bringing them back to being 100 percent

that's what i enjoy doing along with many others as well

also went into it with my eyes wide open, done a lot of research , but got one that is standard , so sat nav etc

as it's my first disco thought it better to not take on the hse model with its extra electronics, am more than happy to use my tom tom, upgraded my front seats to electric already

also mines an ins group 33 and the higher u to with the models the higher the ins

more than happy , has the terrain response system, electric locking diff, hi, low range

rear parking sensors etc etc

like the rear boot system in having the lower part drop down the same as the rangies

put a new suspension compressor in so that's all done now, all the suspension bushes lower arms are already done

just got to get the cam belts etc replaced, it's on 98,000 miles

will replace all the discs and pads after

will be then a really nice landy

blimey i'm gassing as per usual

i've never worried what others have thought , like ur good self , u paid for it, drive and run it , so as long as ur enjoy driving it that's all that matters

always liked motors in black

going to get some sliders on mine , steps are supposed to collect all the dirt etc

did also remove the boot window tints, found them hard to see out of at night in the rain and always concerned me just in case i didn't see something whilst reversing

can see now why so many have the reverse camera option, lol

also pleased mine hasn't got sunroofs , sold my towbar as i'm not going to tow and thought it pointless being there

got it so i can take my parents, family out and also still have room for the dogs and room in the boot
