Anyone who can recommend a company to ship stuff out :)

Or give advice on the HPFP

Hi Mike, hope all is well. I have a new issue. I swear every month something new comes up. Any how took the girl for a run round the island. She drove fine even quicker than i expected. However i noticed wet on the high pressure pump when i retuned. And noticed diesel leaking from it and she wont start now. should i replace with a second hand pump or is the repair kit a better bet? Had to order the special tool to remove the pump. Now im finding a number of dead td4's on the island. Selling very cheap and seem to have a poor rep on the island. Even transkission issues that nobody seems to be able to fix. Anyway let ke know whst u think about the kit.
Thanks
Sebastien

All good thanks.
Fortunately I've not had to mess with the HPFP, but people on here have had good results with the repair kit. Quite a few threads about how to do it in the main forum if you search for it.
So I'd suggest to do the repair as you never know what condition a second hand pump will be.
As for the transmission, make sure all the tyres are the same, with the same pressure in each. Running different tyres on each corner is the main reason they fail.

Hi Mike,
hope I'm not being a pain in the rear! I have found 2 TD4's that are not in use because of starting issues. one of them the owner has agreed to sell cause he cannot find the parts. Can u suggest a company or website that would ship a complete transmission kit to me? Or just a contact. for some reason i just love these freelanders. i have even bought a number of service filters from the previous dealer. any assistance to get a contact for the transmission is appreciated

Thanks everyone

Mike;)

Morning Mike
Is he looking for S/H or new /recon ?
Also - what is he classing as transmission ?
IRD - (unit or repair kit) - shafts, VCU and bearings and rear diff and mounts - or is he also talking drive shafts front and rear and actual gear box itself
I know a guy who can get all the parts s/h if needed (vcu I would get a recon with bearings from Bell's and use the one fo a s/h td4 as exchange.
recon - yikes - Bell have given up (or had a year ago) doing IRD recons as it is getting so difficult to get decent core units to actually re-con (it will be a major issue as the years go by as well but that's another topic)
I think all the places advertising re-cons - there respected ones ! - will ship if requested, the killer is going to be the core exchange price add on , getting all the bits to one place and also the shipping of course (it will be by pallet)

As for the hpfp - I can certainly give you a contact for a good used one who I am sure will send - @Nodge68 is a mine of info on td4 pumps. This one sounds to be a front bearing seal --- it is definitely worth checking that the diesel is coming from the pump and not from another area - it may well not be the pump - might be worth cleaning thoroughly with gunk and using chalk around the output area the chalk will then tend to indicate the flow direction.
Best wishes to Sebastion too.

Mike. If he can get this non starting TD4 at a good price. He could salvage all he needs. The non start is most likely to be the HPFP regulator O ring, so is an easy fix. The HPFP could then simply be swapped out.
He said that the TD4 is troublesome out there. This could be down to local fuel quality. The TD4 is very fussy with it's fuel. I'm wondering is they have a good supply of Kerosene out there. This could well be better quality than derv. Obviously there might be taxation issues using Kerosene. But it's another option. Even if it's given a dose every now and then as a cleaner.

Hi Nodge, :)
SL is not a 3rd world country lol :) - far from it.
I am sure their diesel as as good if not better than the UK.
Also, a #non# starting td4 does not a good transmission make. - possibly - but not probably.
I do agree though that IF it was for silly money (cheap) then hell - yeah !. :) abso-freeking-lootly :D

I wish I could fine a complete FL here at a sensible price - nothing less than 2k Euro however knackered - if I could find one at less than 1k I would bite their hand off.
Might even look at getting one from the UK and getting it out here as a parts doner.

Kerosene (apart from Jet A1 ) is harder to find anywhere these days..
Mind you = JA1 is pretty good with chip fat and a tad of petrol - in the L series ;)

Hello Joe, Sebastien here from St.lucia. Yes its a Freelander 1 TD4 2003 model( presently high pressure pump leaking). I purchased a repair kit for the pump to see if that solves the issue. However I'm also looking for an automatic gear box rebuild or repair kit for the 2006 face lift TD4 model(want to purchase once i can confirm i can get the parts). when in drive it has to rev up more than usual to go forward, when it picks up momentum on the flat, its fine however it wont climb any hills. selecting reverse is no problem and works fine in reverse. The transmission has now been opened and the second gear clutches are burnt. If possible that i can even purchase just front gear clutches from a scraped auto gear box that would be fine. Hope this info helps explain my situation. Don't hesitate to message back, any help is appreciated.
Thanks

and thanks again Mike!
Hello Mike mate,
Just to confirm - his IS a td4 ? yes ?
I know he said he was looking at td4's .....
If it was an L then obviously the belt is enclosed... so I presume it definitely IS td4... ?

Hello Sebastien
With reference to the Jatco box / parts, I would recommend that you speak to these guys first
http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/contact-us.html
They are VERY well respected. I would hope they can sell you just the parts required.
If you are interested in a used auto transmission, I have a contact in the UK if you PM me I can probably get you a very good price (if he has one in) - I am unsure as to the shipping costs if it was a complete used automatic gearbox (transmission) it would probably have to be shipped on a small pallet. It is always a bit of an unknown when buying second hand though - - but the guys I get my parts from are good guys. I would personally go for the new parts if I had a transmission specialist at hand.
Hopefully the CP1 hp pump repair kit includes all the seals including the drive shaft seal.(i believe there is a front seal as well as the two o rings on the input / main drive shaft.)
Once you get a small leak from one of the three high pressure pump units it can over-pressurise the internal spaces of the pump LP section forcing fuel out of the front seal - your repair kit.
Keep all cylinder parts and head specifically for that cylinder so they are refitted to the same cylinder.
I have not done a CP1 pump but have overhauled a bosch VP37 pump. I believe you need a bit of ingenuity or special tool to remove the taper front drive cog. ;) - otherwise it looks very straight forward to do.
Hope that helps Sebastien ?.
Talk to Ashcroft first - if your transmission guy knows exactly what is needed you should be able to order just those parts.
The recent fall in the value of the pound (due to the ridiculous 'brexit' vote) will be in your favour as well.
All the best
Joe

Hi Sebastian.
All parts are available new for the Jatco box. You just need to find a supplier that will ship them to you. If the friction plates are burnt, it's possible that the piston is cracked. This allows fluid to leak out, reducing pressure on the plate. This results in slip and burning. Ascroft as said might well sell you jus the parts. If not, then Cobra Transmissions should have the parts you need. The parts aren't that expensive compared to the price of a new transmission.
