Three amigos yet again

Yesterday the dreeded three lights came on I got it plugged in and was told the front left sensor was faulty. Tonight I replaced the sensor and all was well on the test drive with no lights on until I pulled into my drive and they started singing again. Anyone have any ideas????? It's a D2 V8 auto.

Are you sure your battery is good. They arent tolerant of low voltage.

In most cases when you get sensor related fault codes the problem is with the hub as there's a play in the reluctor ring

The battery is good I replaced it last year. The hub was changed just over 6 months ago but I suppose even new parts fail.

It can be a wiring issue too which is a nightmare, if it was a cheap ebay hub then 6 months doesnt seem so strange though

Similar thing happened to me recently. Replaced the ABS sensor on the front driver side, cleared the fault and went for a drive. It was fine for about a day or so (previously it had been un-resettable) so I just reset it again as I didn't have time to look at it.... that was about 2 months ago, it never came on again since

Just try resetting it again would be my first job.

When you do reset it, don't forget to clear out the historic DTCs too.

My post above wasn't clear... basically I had an un-resettable fault on the ABS sensor, I replaced the sensor only, cleared the faults and was OK for a day or two, then it came back.... I just thought bugger it, I'll just reset it again thinking it would last another day or so..........two months later it's never come back.

Mind you loads of other things have gone wrong since then

Even a "cheap" hub should have a warranty. At 6 months old I'd be contacting the seller.
I had a faulty one replaced foc (within the year) as it leaked diff oil through it.
I reckon you'd be best with a nice new hub with built in sensor though. Even if it is a cheap one.

So, in 99% of cases a sensor fault would bring up the 3 amigos immediately after the self test as the faulty sensor doesnt return well the test voltage sent by the ECU, if the sensor returns the voltage it means it's winding and connection is good then the 3 amigos will come on while driving which means that the signal is corrupted usually due to the fact that the air gap between the sensor and the reluctor ring exceeded the admitted limits and that's caused by play in the ring. An unerasable fault code is usually caused by sensor or it's circuit failure cos the ECU will not erase the fault code as long as the system didnt pass the self test after the erase command ... that's how it works though being a Land Rover there are exceptions
