I recently uploaded a photo onto here about 6 weeks ago of my new purchase, a 2002 Discovery 2 V8 facelift. It's my first ever Land Rover which is used as a second car and so far I am loving it.

I have finally got around to doing some of the small jobs to it which were required and thought I would start a thread on here to show everyone - also a good way to remind me of what I have done!

The first thing on the list was the front fog light - the one fitted had badly corroded, full of condensation and looked awful. Unfortunately I have no photo of it fitted (I forgot) however here it is after I'd taken it off. Must have been letting water in for some time.

Unfortunately it wasn't the easiest thing to do, every screw holding the corner of the bumper on had rusted and the heads stripped - someone must have tried before and given up! I used the Dremel and cut new heads and got them out that way and replaced with new.

Nice new foglight

My second job was my headlight, this too was filling with condensation. For a quick fix I have brought it into the house for a night in front of the fire and cleared it out, have refitted so will see how that goes!

Last job for the weekend was the rear step. I had originally intended to replace the hydraulic stay so it would go up and down, I hadn't really taken a proper look until today. Upon closer inspection I noticed the step was completely corroded and after banging at it with a hammer after removing the bolts, realised it was unsalvageable as you can see!

Luckily my chassis is solid and requires only rubbing down and treating in the Spring.

I am quite a perfectionist and like things looking as they were originally so this will be on my wish list.

Anyway, after a weekend of messing around (also time spent on a VW Beetle I am attempting to also restore) this is it done.

Still a few things to get done and will try and keep this updated as much as I can. Will want to sort out the wheel arches in better weather as they have been effected by the sun, will have to feel brave when that happens though!

Also, open to any suggestions you may have out there ;)

Thanks for reading
Ryan

Lovely looking motor. Very much considering a D2 V8 to go alongside my TDI at some point - diesel just doesn't quite do it for me ;)

Is yours on LPG? I'm curious to find out about it, as I don't think i'd ever dare drive a V8 on petrol!

Thanks, I'd go for it, a very strange feeling if you have been used to driving diesel Land Rovers before! Mine isn't LPG I actually specifically looked for one which wasn't. Only a second car, owned it around 7 weeks and still using the same tank of petrol from when I filled it up... that includes a drive back from Sheffield ;) I worked out how much extra a V8 would cost me per year and didn't work out too badly. Plus I really, really like the sound of it lol so that sold it for me.

I think I'd rather do as you did and buy one without LPG, then get the conversion done properly once I had it if I wanted to.

The sound of it has to be the best thing!

I've always had a fast modern petrol car and the Discovery for the weekend, tip runs, towing, green laning etc. I got a bit fed up of the monthly payments on my last car, and the fact you seem to end up racing everywhere.

Would much prefer the Discovery as it's high up and comfy but also has a nice engine note and plenty of power

Do you have any particular plans for yours? Looks very tidy so I wouldn't blame you for just enjoying it as it is!

I was wary about the LPG conversions purely because I had no clue about them and wouldn't know if they were good or not!

Same here, I have my everyday car for work etc. then this for the weekends. Would love to use the Disco everyday but I probably wouldn't be able to afford to eat haha.

Not many plans yet, mainly to do the few little things - itching to sort the wheel arches out but will probably be a spring job. For now just going to enjoy it for a bit. Also toying with the idea of adding spotlights to the front, headlights seem terrible in comparison to my car and we don't have many street lights around here!
