What have you done to your Freelander today

Looks like they're nearly as bright as the headlights in day mode but at least they're in the right position. It bugs me when people drive around at dusk with their lights off as the DRL's can be blinding.
Oh and people driving around with their front fog lights all the time, that really bugs me, specially with their side lights on just so everyone can see they got front fog lights on their motor.

OMG I think I'm turning into Grumpy!
You got some way to go mate... What about rear fog lights on when there's no fog? They are really annoying twits.

Keep at it though, its like refurbing VCUs, the more you practice, the better you get :)

My new LEDs are rated at 2 watts. But because LED as a light source is more efficient, they look quite bright. They are also cold 6000K white. This makes them appear very bright. In day light, they are visible, but not blinding.
I will wire the lights into the engine running signal from the ECU, using a relay, supplying NBV. The plan is to drive them via a current limiting circuit when the side lights are on, so they are closer to normal 501 bulb brightness.

Here's another picture of them in different daylight conditions.

The Freelander has been at the bottom of the garden for the last few months due to a noisy gearbox.
I have realised that I am unlikely to be bothered finding and fitting a replacement so have put it up for sale locally.

I have put the synergy 2a and Special Vehicle badges up in the for sale forum on here.

That's a shame Dave. The fact you're selling stuff would indicate not, but will you be getting another Freelander? Would be a shame to lose you from the forum.

Fuel pressure regulator repair kit has arrived while I was I can see where it is with a torch but can't figure out how to get round to the second bolt for it, can anyone advise the best way to remove it?

Search isn't throwing up anything concrete just the fuel rail wiring replacement (which could be the next step)

Does the inlet manifold need to come off or the starter motor in order to change the seals?

Or do you need to access from underneath the car?

Thanks

don't think you need to take the starter motor off but when i did mine it was so much easier with it off and no the manifold can stay where it is and all done from above only took an hour

Don't suppose you know what size the bolts are on the regulator do you?

I honestly dont know. I have lost all enthusiasm for cars generally these days. Six needy older cars is taking its toll on my finances and time, and the Mazda pickup does everything I currently need from a 4x4....tows well, carrys stuff for work etc etc.
I genuinely like the Freelander and have owned mine for I think six years now, which is the longest I have ever owned any car by a long margin, but finding a good gearbox for reasonable money and most of all being motivated to fit it just doesnt look like it will happen.....Plus obviously new clutch plate and hydraulics at the same time.....Then there is all the other stuff it needs..... The tatty bodywork doesnt bother me at all, in fact I prefer that, but it could do with new shocks and bushes all round....stuff like that which isnt urgent but will need done sooner or later and the cost all adds up.

On the other hand, the advert has been live locally for a while and the responses I have had make me weep for humanity. These fart sniffers seem to be expecting a brand new Evoque for 1000 euros. I can see me taking the huff and pulling the advert soon rather than deal with these imbeciles.

Good to know thanks!

all i can remember off the top of my head is they're a torx bit bolt , and don't forget to disconnect your battery before you start (is ok i tell everyone as is easy to forget whilst pre-occupied with other stuff)

I saw a rare sight on my way home from work today.....A Range Rover Sport that is actually used off road instead of for posing!
I was stopped at a traffic light and the RR pulled up next to me. My first thought was "Eeew a dirty RR!" Then I noticed that the trailer plug cover was off the back and the sill cover had been ripped off. It had a bit of mud splatter on the bodywork. He had a snorkel and a roof basket fitted with LED panels on all four sides. There must have been over $1000. worth of lighting up there. It actually made me envious!
A properly used Range Rover may be a common sight for you Brits but here Range Rovers are usually driven by rich Chinese women who buy them to drive to the shopping mall, and yes, that includes SVRs!
Here is a pic that I pulled off my dash cam video.

Sunroof all working nicely - thanks in part to GrumpyGel's stock.

However...

Hoodlining is detaching from backing in places. So ...

I have relined 3 before, advised numerous people not to restick the lining, and not to use spray contact.

So I used spray contact to restick the lining in places and put it back in.

Next day, the lining is worse than when I took it out - Idiot!

So now to take the lining out again and do it properly.

BTW, this is the third Freelander I have saved from the great crusher in the sky. Have also done a P38a. Should I get a reward, or punishment?

Hmm, I'd recommend counselling.

Did a nice rainy day project today and replaced the crappy worn grey Land Rover badging on the front of the Hippo with shiny new silver
lettering. It really brightens it up but left me with blisters on my thumbs from rubbing off the old adhesive. I'll have to hold a glass of ice cubes
with some anasthetic in it this evening to help them recover. ;)
Update! Got a reply e-mail from my insurance provider. Repair has been OK'd, deductible has been waived (The other driver must have admitted fault) and they are allowing me $500. for a rental car while the Hippo is being repaired. :) That is the best possible outcome but the logistics will still be a PITA.

That made up for the crappy start to my weekend when a woman dented the Hippo's door when the wind caught her car door.
Luckily I saw it happen or she would have just driven away. She looked at the door and said "It's OK". "It's not bloody OK" I said,
That's a $400. dent! Insurance claim filed online, now I wait.

Here's the before pic of the badging

Today I picked up this View attachment 109414 from my local post office. Unfortunately I had to pay a customs charge. But that's the way things go sometimes, when ordering from the US.

I've fitted it so now I have indicators that do this

That`s a clever gadget. You aren`t one of those old guys that leaves your indicators on for miles are you?
(That`s the excuse I use when I do it )

That`s one advantage to living where I do. I just have my US parcels shipped to a mailbox just across the border (about 8km from home) and I drive across and pick them up. I always declare the parts at the border but if they are less than a couple hundred dollars they wave me through. :D
Mind you any parts from the UK cost me a bundle with shipping, duty and customs clearance charges. :(

No. I'm lucky in that I drive modern cars as well as my old Freelander. I've got used to lane change indicators, so wanted them in the Freelander. This little box does just what I need. Sadly anything from the US that costs more than about £5 is subject to import duty, and an £8 post office charge:(
It's worth it though, as it works a treat.
