I'd like to identify the cause Joe. The engine runs perfectly all the time, except when on a light throttle at ~2K. There's no blue at start up, or any other time in the operating cycle. It just manifests itself if the throttle is held open enough to run the engine at 2K. It also misfires on a trailing throttle at the same 2K. I've not noticed any smoke at that time. But I have read that other's with the 2K misfire do get smoke.
I will solve this, as it's clearly not correct, even though it's quite common.
Was it ever in the LR advertising material that it would not smoke and miss at 2K revs?

This is obviously a design flaw, I think you need to buddy up with a new LZ member and start legal proceedings!

Edit : I recon the fella doing the maps in the ECU was really ****ed off one day and stuck something in there for 2K rpm!

what about the wet boot and why women laugh at me when they see me driving my hippo ,

also centre console isn't big enough to keep my hair crimpers in

got to be a design flaw :D

I found those videos amusing, especially the text about how much torque it takes to break traction on a slippery surface. He's clearly deluded and is using completely incorrect data to confirm this.

However I'm not dreaming about my 2K misfire with blue smoke. I'll find a cure and won't waste my time taking LR to court over it.

mine has done this on and off for the 3 years i;ve owned it , as i dont hold it at these revs very often i just drive it and dont worry , lets face it if we worried about all the things that could go wrong with a hippo then you would;nt dare drive it , mines certainly got no worse in this time its probably even slightly better all i do is add a fuel additive and run good fuel ,mine smells dieseley but the car runs really well so i aint going to worry .

Hello, bit late back into this, im a tad busy at the Mo.

Since removing my synergy chip about 8 or 9 months ago, to sort out that other "problem" I had, mine doesn't misfire at 2k or stutter on overrun.

Take that extra oil out before you proceed, it could just be that. But, like @Joe_H said, it looks like a leaky seal.

Sorry I'm absent without leave currently, works taking all my time:(

Will be back soon.

Mike

Good to see ya back Mike :)
Don't work too hard... I try not to you know..:D

Have you replaced the crank case breather with the newer cyclone type?
The sponge might be clogged if you still have the older one.
Mike

Sponge thing in it. I replaced it in March when I serviced it.
I will switch to the cyclone type next service.
I'm going to use 10W40 oil next change too.

So, as you have to much oil in, it could be excess oil getting caught in the sponge, blocking the breather and coming out the exhaust as smoke.
Looking at the video again, if I was sat behind a diesel doing that I'd think,
1. Burning oil- leaky turbo hose, leaky engine/injector seal, or too much/wrong oil.
2. Over fuelling, leaky injector or spray head faulty.

But I'd still syphon a bit of oil out first, cheapest option:)

Mike

P.s are we sure that the synergy doesn't have a faulty map at 2k rpm and all this is just because of a glitch.

It doesn't smoke when driving, except for a quick puff of black if I plant the throttle.
It only makes the blue smoke if I've held the revs at 2K for a minute or so. Like it's being drawn in from the breather system.

I'll turn the Synergy off and repeat the 2K test.

Any news on how it turned out at the end @Nodge68?

No, I never cured the 2k misfire. I suspected it was something to do with contaminated air from the breather, but sold the vehicle before I could prove that.
I own the Freelander 2 now, which comes with its own unique set of issues.
