Hi all, I have a TD4 auto, since owning the vehicle the steptronic has never worked, i have tried following the instructions in the owners manual and still can't get it to work.
I have been looking through Rave and the only thing i can see is the circuit board round the gear change lever with sensors on it, is this what i should be looking at replacing or is there something else that i should be looking at?
Any help would be very helpful.

Hi my wife's got an auto and that's the same, been told to disconnect the big round plugs on the gearbox wiring harness an clean them but can't get them undone.

Yes it selects sport and that seems to act as it should
From memory. The Sport and command shift are on a seperate switch board under the gear lever cover. These could well have split wiring or bad connections. It's well worth looking there for the problem.

The ECU takes the up / down signal from a green/black and green/pink.
I don't know if the switch makes them go to live or to ground. So first thing is to check that the switches are working and that the ground is good. I'm thinking that the ECU is looking for ground for the + - gears. The live is working as Sport appears to live switched.
So basically check all is as it should be
Here's the wiring diagram.

Yes, the ECU inputs should be logic high (5V) with no step signal applied. It is the norm to use internal pull up resistors on the signal line inside the ecu other wise in the event of an indeterminate input the ecu would receive rapidly changing signals. Most (I would actually say 100%) digital signal inputs of any type on an ecu are logic high from internal pull ups in the static state and pulled low by the actuator.
Each actuated signal from the selector for the + / - should pull the ecu pin down to virtually 0v (logic 0).

It can be a gotcha for some ecu tests with the plug disconnected and when using a multi meter as the ecu will always read logic 1. Some have mistakenly been led to believe that the ecu has an internal issue and is 'stuck' at logic 1 when they are simply reading the pulled up static state of the input. For example a sensor with a 5V feed and a signal return will read 5v on both terminals at the ecu with no actuation or no physical connection. The last bit is slightly OT but worth noting when testing any digital ecu input
Joe. :)

yes,i adjusted the cable as per those instructions and it works perfectly since...might not fix yours but got to be worth a try before major stripdown??
