Hi everyone,
My TD4 2001 freelander will every now and then after driving for a while and then parking up and switching of the engine will when I try to restart just turn the engine over but the engine wont fire/start, which in the last two weeks as become more regular at least every 2 – 3 days. But after waiting a considerable time (30 mins to 2hrs) before I flatten the battery its starts. I have been told it could be the crank sensor switch. Any advice help in how to replace the crank sensor switch or any advice on pin pointing why its not starting sometimes would be greatly appreciated.

Plenty of posts on the forum re poor hot starting, usually the CAMshaft sensor but can sometimes be fuel pressure issues.

I had a similar problem with mine, it was the fuel pump at the back starting to fail.
It would not start to run until it had cooled, then ran ok.
Listen for the pump running before trying to start the engine.

I had the same problem about 10 months ago, in fact Ive got a similar problem at the moment. Mine is a 2001 TD4. Last time it was the fuel pump which is situated under the rear seat behind on the drivers side. If thats not making a buzzing sound its bust. Had that replaced, now I,m having a similar problem which could be the front fuel pump.
Nick.

my freelander td4 04 wont start hot or cold turns over but wont fire . got progressively worse over two weeks until not starting at all.

If you are rude people won't waste there time helping.

Why change the fuel level sensor? That's a wast of money for a start.
I would think your problem could be fixed for a tenner. Rudeness won't get you that nugget of information though

I changed the sender unit as the gauge played up anyway, not rudeness just amazed that no body has the knowledge of the answer to the problem. or the nugget.
not much you can get for a tenner .

if it auto it behind the starter motor if it manual behind exhaust manifold.

But then I am just a Sad Farmer ............
