Being new to range rover ownership i decided in my infinate wisdom to replace my worn key, i got a new key fob and had the blade cut, so i put the inards off my old key into it it would unlock the doors but would not turn in the ignition so i thought the blade had been cut wrong so i put the inards back in the old key but this would then not turn in the ignition, so a couple of phone calls to landrover and they could not work out what was wrong as the original key should have worked they thought it might need to be updated but due to its age (2003)they couldn`t do it so they recomended a 4x4 specialist who could help, so a call to the rac so we could get it to the garage was made but when they turned up they couldn`t get it to work nor could they get it out of park no matter what they tried.
it was trucked to the 4x4 garage yesterday and they are sill trying to get it out of park
everyone has no idea what is going on not even landrover as they have never seen this problem before
Has anyone else ever come across this problem
All the best
Russ
p.s. (sorry about the long winded post)

thanks for the reply what is the transponder please excuse my ignorance how do you resync the key i would have thought they would have known this or am i possibly being taken for a mug?

The transponder is a little tiny sender unit that sits in the fob very easy lost if taking fob apart, someone did the same a while ago but managed to find the transponder and refit it.

I read it as the actual blade part will not turn in the ignition.
However, if the transponder chip is still in the old fob, you need to sort that out....

My guess is if the ign wont turn, the blade is new and sharp, where the old part is worn and blunt. The problem being the barrel will also be old and blunt, meaning the new key is sort of the wrong shape.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I read it. Basically, the ign barrel is locked.

The ignition wont turn because the transponder coil isn't picking up the little chip in the key ..... the L322 has a solenoid lock on the barrel, if there is no response from the transponder chip the barrel is locked.

The chip looks like a tiny piece of plastic.....and is easily lost or fallen out when the key is taken apart.

So if the transponders missing can a new one be purchased and programed to the solenoid in the ign barrel ?
