What have you done to your Freelander today

Found this yesterday morning. I don't suspect foul play as the passenger side is up against the hedge when on the drive.
Got the new on fitted tonight after stripping the door down and cleaning up all the glass which was absolutely everywhere after I shut the drivers door and the glass fell out…!

Well it looks as if my Camshaft sensor isn't going to last very long, took a while for it to fire today and the code has appeared again. Could someone let me know what the output volts should be on the loom connector please? V6 if that makes any difference.

Ta.

It's an active sensor iirc. These are normally supplied with 5 Volts and ground. The signal would generated as the cam segment goes past the sensor. It supplies a timed on/off pulse to the ECU as the engine rotates. These sensors do fail on the V6 and on BMW engines too. It's a BMW sensor fitted to the KV6, but I can't remember which BMW they are fitted to.

This weekend I got a couple of small jobs done on my new Freelander and am happy to say everything went well.
I changed the pollen filter, which was a good thing as the old one looked as if it had never been changed-Disgusting!
It's clever the way the thing curves to fit into it's housing. I also changed the V6 air filter. Again a simple job that went quicker than expected.
I was very happy to see that the thermostat housing looked quite new, and the Vee of the engine was dry as a bone. On the coolant theme
I also replaced the header tank and cap as the old one was covered in fine cracks. Owning other K-Series cars I know better than to ignore any
potential cooling problems.
Next up, engine, gearbox and IRD oil changes. :)

Small note of caution.
If you leave your dog in the car whilst you look under it trying to find a rattle.... Give it something to chew.
Anybody know where I can get a new handbrake handle:(
Mike

P.S windows and sunroof were open to keep the little darling cool.
Our old dog would destroy the car if he was left in in alone for the shortest of times. The worst one was the back seat in our Passat - I think VW wanted best part of £1,000 to fix that!

Current dog loves the car, would sit in it all day if he could - I think because he associates it with going for a walk. He can be a bit excitable when we have visitors, so we put him in the car! He jumps in all happy, but when we turn round and walk back down the path to the house you can see his expression drop and he realises he's been "had" again :) Still happy to sit in there and wait patiently though.

The factory timing belts will last over 100,000 Miles as it's a good system. However once the belt gets to those sort of Miles and over 8 years or so, you start to play timing belt roulette!! Over here a few years back, there was a glut of 100k 8 year old MG ZS 180 on the market with broken belts. These came about because the cost of a belt change was greater than the car's value.
It prompted me to do the DIY KV6 belt guide in my sig.
Too funny. I just replaced all my belts and tensioners this week. It's an 04 KV6 SE. Only 85,000kms on her but she is 12 years old. Also threw on new toyo 18" AT Truck Tires. Getting her ready for the summer road trip.

Got round to fitting the center console cubby box today from my project/parts car - why does Rave refer to this as as the "rear console"!

Most of the time has been spent cleaning! I removed the cubby box from the old car and removed all the bits (switches etc) from it and gave everything a good clean. I then removed the plastic trim from my L Series - and realised just how dirty that area between the seats was - even dirtier than the rest of the car! So cleaned that up to....

I now need to work out if I want to take over the electric back windows and hook up the switches. I'm not really fussed with having them and its something to go wrong, but might make it easier to give the dog some air. All depends on whether my CCU will handle them and if the harnesses to the cubby box and the back doors make the job not to painful.

The bonus of getting the cubby box in (apart from making it easier for the dog to climb into the front) - and having the storage, is that I don't need the storage on the dash - so can now install this....

Just need to do a bit more cleaning before I fit it!

We have 6: 5 labs and a sprocker pup. In my wife's Pug they all sit politely like good little gundogs but as soon as they get in the Hippo the sprocker looks for something tasty. So far she's marmalised both the yellow seat release lever covers and six of the trim retainer/luggage hooks. Anyone want a part-trained sprocker?

re cubby box: I extended the front window lift switch harnesses to the lower of the four cubby switches. I had to make up two metal brackets to hold the rear of the cubby down. Some time I'll move the redundant window switches and lift up the door lock & rear window switch in their place.

I've spent this weekend continuing to look at the possibility of swapping the seats for height adjustable ones. I found to start with I was overthinking it, I worked out how the sub frame is going to work but with the pair or seats I plan to use there are issues with the seat occupying more space than the originals and fowling on the door pockets. I also thought I was also going to have to modify the casings for the seatbelt srs system but I noticed that the units on my later seats are slimmer than those I have been using for mock up on my donor seats (subframes)

Next step is to try and reduce the depth of a seat of door pockets.

Took her for her MOT - advisories on track rod end ball joint and another ball joint I've instantly forgotten (and its raining so I'm not going back to the car to have a look at the paperwork...). Can all wait till I get back from holiday next month.

Do you have an annoying squeak coming from the back of your Freelander?
I did. I thought it was the hinges that hold the removable roof on, @Nodge68 thought it was the seat catches.
But no.
Open the tail gate, and look at the bottom of the glass inside. There's two rubbers, one is a weather strip, the other is the rubber seal.
Put some lithium grease between them. No more squeak:)
I didn't realise how irritating it was until I got rid of it. Deep joy.
Mike

I hate those annoying rattles, squeaks and knocks that cars develop as they age. A bit like those ailments that people suffer with age too.
I have traced and rectified a few unwanted noises on my SE since getting it.
I had a horrible buzzing sound from what sounded like the heater motor. Turns out it was the centre console where it clips into the dash bracket. That was solved with a couple of trim screws.
I had a loud squeak from the back somewhere, this was traced to the seat catches. I was easily fixed by adding a few raps of insulation tape to the hoops.
I had a rattle from the front ARB drop links. Both were replaced, solving the rattling sound. However I now have a spring type boing noise at large suspension movements. I think this is possibly a duff drop link. The drivers door lock button rattles unless it's pushed in (very annoying :()
I also have a high pitched squeaking from the rear door area, so I'll be looking at doing Mike's fix above.
I'll get these noises fixed and I plan on additional sound proofing too. I will have a quiet Freelander!

last couple of weeks been playin' with r.rons' turbo controller .. dgb1
( aim to post a report on that device at some-stage )

~~~~~~~~~~
today installed an alternative air-intake / intercooler duct system
.. something like this ..
i_m_other.jpg
'cept mine aint as neat 'n shiny :)
used cut up hosing .. secured with cable ties .. as a buffer between the manifold and tubing
gives it a bit of a scruffy edge ..
( original here : https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/intercooler-problem-mod.126484/ )
yet to go for a test run ..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

as for noises ..
buzzing dashboard near cup-holder at certain rpm ..
( messing with c.h. fixings haven't helped )
rattling roof-panel latches .. temp. fix .. silicon lube on the hinges ..
a permanent fix would be nice :-/

That's a very well sorted induction system, if you do that.;)
I'd like something like that myself but I doubt the wife would allow me to divert funds for such "frivolities"
Looks like a millions dollars though;)
