This week I decided to give my recently acquired td5 2005 110 a service. I started with the oil and oil filters. One of the bolts on the centrifugal filter had been threaded and just spun loosely. I've not fixed that yet but oil doesn't leak without the bolt. The air filter looks like it's not been changed for 20,000 miles instead of the 1500 miles according to the service history. Anyway the engine oil and filters along with the air filter were changed and it runs sweet.

Next up I tackled the fuel filter. The whole think sheared off the chassis and doesn't look to me like it's been changed since new! I ended up buying a new fuel filter housing (one of the most expensive parts I've purchased for a long time!). Genuine part was 130 quid.

It's all changed now and running fine. Now I normally change the fuel filter once a year on my 200tdi. Considering I only do a max of 3000 miles a year in it that's probably overkill but for the price of the part it makes sense to me to change it.

Check out this piece of rusty crap. Anyone think it's newer than 2005 when my 110 was built lol

My fuel filter looks like that after a year of use (about 12,000 miles)
Where it is located it gets all the crap from the wheels thrown at it.

What did the inside look like?
Was there any water/snot coming out of the sediment drain?
