Disco 1 Newbie immobiliser woes

Still banging my head against a brick wall with this 1, getting desperate now!

Could somebody PM me a link or even better still a photo showing me where on the EDC pump I have to run a wire from 12V to get fuel to my injectors? I've had so much conflicting information, mostly either to do with the Spider unit (I dont have 1 & have removed the dash to prove this) or the wrong type pump.

As I've said previously, if somebody is prepared to travel that knows how to help with this problem on my specific version of Discovery I'll be very happy to pay them for their time if they get it running!!!

I've spoken to various different Land Rover specialists & they give me conflicting information, the closest I've got is being able to source a new AMR 4886 unit & fob but I'm reasonably sure a straight swap wont cure the problem as this alarm ECU will need pairing with my vehicle.

Update now I've checked every joint on the alarm PCB, I refitted the green box & it made all sorts of clicks & buzzes. Indicators flashed for a while as though the siren should also be going off, the key fob does nothing to stop this.

I've noticed a loud high pitched buzzing that's also coming from the fuel pump when the ignition is on.

I can see a black / white wire that's connected to what's best described as a nipple on the fuel pump, I've tried connecting this to 12v with no luck, when I trace that wire underneath the pump its connected to a 3 wire connector which appears to have 2 wires cut off

This 3 wire connector is obscured by another cable with what appears to be 6 wires that's also connected to the pump at the top via a black box, I know there's diesel underneath the box as I've pried it up & fuel leaked out.

I've now noticed that when I turn the ignition on the red light below my speedo stays on solid but there's also a regular flash of another red warning light on the right side of the instrument cluster that looks like a car with a key in the middle of it, I'm guessing that's the immobiliser warning light?

Is there somewhere that specialises in sorting this kind of problem?

There was a thread on here a while back by @Jasonmichael , who, IIRC is Oldham way, and who found an autospark to fix his alarm problems. Might be worth PMing him. Here's the post in his thread:-

IIRC 95 MY was the changeover from standard Bosch VE FIP, to EDC. IMHO, longer term, you might like to consider ditching EDC, before it dies - Many of the component parts are no longer available. Post a piccie up so we can confirm the presence of EDC ( though from what you have described it does very much like it:(). I have stripped it all off mine with great success, and a few others on here have done the same.:)

Hi. HTH.

yep Deffo 300TDi with EDC. The buzzing you described above was a bit of a give away.

EDC is not too difficult to rid - you need an ordinary VE pump, and injectors, and the brackets for the kick down cable - all best from a scrap yard - new prices are just daft.

If you can change a timing belt, you can rid EDC. It will be down on power if you do, and it can be brought back up, and quite easily well beyond EDC levels with a full width intercooler and tuning the FIP.

Presume your "check engine" light behaves properly at the moment ?

Mine didn't, and the unavailability of ERR3337 - number 4 injector, with a sensor in, (Bosch stopped making them over 10 years ago) was what more or less forced me down the removal line.

CEL is doing as it should at the moment.

Stupid question time: when I press the unlock button on my key fob, should there be a red light? Not 1 on mine (2 button version) & are there places you can go to check if the fob is working?

no lights on the fob - light is in the middle of the instrument cluster. if it locks and unlocks its working - plus the immobiliser light will go off once the system scans the chip in the fob as you turn the ignition on.

Central locking isn't working off the fob at the moment, it did when I bought it about a month ago then stopped. I can hear relays clicking away when I push / pull the lock on the inside of the door but the alarm unit isn't happy when I do this & complains by making a buzzing noise, occasionally the indicators will also flash as though the alarm is activated.

The red LED on the dash flashes reasonably quickly (about every 2 secs) until I turn the key then the red LED stays solid, occasionally the indicators will flash at that point & what I assume is the immobiliser light flashes faintly every second or so. When I turn the key to start nothing happens.

Hopefully @Jasonmichael will be able to help, I've sent him a PM.

keyfob needing a new battery maybe

I've already tried that, had 1 of our electronics engineers check out the fob to make sure its working & everything looks like it is. I've reached the end of my abilities with this problem, going to get an auto-spark involved when I've got the time.

Hi
The 300 Tdi EDC is easily identified by the Airflow meter on the inner Passenger wing as well as a different FIP.
The FIP should buzz as described earlier.
You do not have a spider if you have EDC
The immobiliser when active displays the red lights as you have described .
There is also an interlock on the Autobox which stops the car being started in any gear apart from P and N, it is also acts as the Reverse light switch
If I remember correctly the immobiliser stops the starter from turning and cuts off the fuel as well
Two important checks , does the engine turn over quickly on the starter ? if you remove a fuel injector is there fuel being sprayed out ?
Try to resync the key fob ie press the lock button 4 times do a search on hear for further info.
There are lots of fuses to check under the steering column and under the bonnet on the drivers inner wing (main fuses and individual circuits in same box)
Regards
Jonathan

Thanks for all your help guys, I've finally got the Disco running again. After an auto-spark confirmed my suspicions that the immobiliser wasn't disarming I decided to give www.remotekey.co.uk a call to see if they could help. Turns out Ian (the guy that runs it) is a very knowledgeable guy, I sent him my AMR4886 unit, the Bosch ECU & my fob & within a couple of days I had everything back with a replacement / reconditioned AMR4886 coded to my ECU for not a lot of money.

Cant recommend these guys enough from my experience.
