Newly registered but a long time reader of this excellent site. I have a 2004 Discovery II Landmark; bought new and it has been a superb vehicle. Apart from MOT's and servicing every year (full service history) we have needed to spend little on it. Of course that cannot last........:(

Bank holiday weekend spent fitting new air springs and position sensors (thanks for the info needed!) and resealing the sunroof drain connectors. (also thanks to this site!).
I have built cars in the past mostly old Ford and Triumph but never really enjoyed working on moderns. The Disco is a new experience so I will probably bother the members of this site quite often.

Thanks!!

Steve.

Welcome. I'm guessing yours would be a TD5 engine?

I got to know Triumph mechanicals fairly well back in the 1980s as we had Heralds and Spitfires and a Bond Equipe. Tip the bonnet up, put the Hanyes manual on the windscreen using the wipers to hold the pages down and away you go.

Yep, TD5 version. It was one of the last ones available as my wife didn't like the "van" looks of the Disco 3.
Previous experience of 4X4's were a Daihatsu 4Trak with the cart springs; interesting but very.... agricultural. Next was the Disco 1 'N' reg ex-Met police 3 door diesel auto. That thing handled like it was on rails! My wife loved it but I wasn't keen on the auto box so after 2 years we P/X'd it for a new Disco II in metallic wine red and got more than we paid for it!. As one of the last Discos the dealership was doing amazing deals and my wife literally ticked the entire options list even after getting complimentary pen set, bag, thermal mugs she was still negotiating for the salesman's desk and shirt!

All in all the Disco is the best car we have ever owned - it has taken 4 kids the length and breadth of Britain with very few issues; none that are not plain wear and tear. And the Disco II still looks the part even though it is 12 years old; the design like the 90 doesn't really date.
