Hello again from (at the moment)Sunny West Wiltshire!

Been off the forum for a long while due to house rebuild, project purchases and life in general.

We now own 4 x Land Rovers, comprising of
2 x S3 LWT projects, (72/3 & 83 GS Models)
My 2003 130 -TD5 and
Her 1993 200Tdi 90.

Been an interesting few months on the 130 rebuilding the brakes, replacing bearings and fitting new brake lines.
Also collecting parts to start the repairs on our 83 LHD LWT.

All had been going well until last night, when my other halfs 90 decided to try to commit suicide by way of a "Runaway" due to failed Turbo!.

Thankfully I stalled it out the second it started to race, engine still starts and runs fine, but lots of oil in the air filter etc.

So, now on the look out for a good used defender 200 Tdi Turbo unit for her.

Plan to take it off the road in July to start pre resto inspections etc, but could do with it back on the road until then.

Let the search begin!
(anyone happens to have a turbo spare for a fair price, feel free to message me)

Mal.

Just a tad!
The LWT's are a LHD 83 and a RHD 72. GS models so no worries about expensive 24v parts.
Unfortunately the 72 is a complete basket case, so a Looong term project.
The 83 LHD LWT has usual rear chassis and footwell issues, and a few bits need sorting on the vent panel.
But, came with a pile of new bits icluding a new galv vent panel, outer hinge panels and footwells, so that will save me a few quid and a lot of time.

My 130 is in pretty good condition, only worry rust wise is the rear floor support member for the double cab, as one end has corroded a lot, and finding a new one is proving difficult without shelling out almost a grand for a genuine one!.

Until yesterday, the 90 was a good all round workhorse that needed a little TLC (footwell and doors), if I can get it back on the road, even on a temp basis, then in the summer it will be replaced as a daily with a RRC or Tdi Disco then have it's issues sorted out properly.

Completed my rebuild on the 130's brakes today.
New calipers, disks, pads, retention kits, bearings, brake lines and axle seals.
And as to be expected, complete fluid flush out and replaced.
Now it's ready for MOT again, I can spend tomorrow working on the other halfs Tdi 90!.

Just had the Defender 90 fired up in low range to move it to a more "accessible" position, and it didn't sound too happy!.
Got my fingers crossed, but could have a valve or bottom end issue as well!.

Have a lead on a turbo, but in case I need to, anyone know of any reasonably priced Defender 200Tdi engines for sale?

Picked up a near new Turbo unit and gaskets for the other halfs 90 today.
Now I just need the weather to give me time to get the affected parts stripped off, cleaned, and and back on with the new unit. (hopefully thats all it needs!)
Also replacing the cyclone breather unit and associated breather pipes.

Well now our "new to us" Range Rover is on the road, we have sorned and put "lay up" cover on the 90.
Time to continue the strip down of the 90's Turbo etc and fit the replacement.
Due to a recent Hernia op, I only got as far as removing the associated pipe work, air filter housing and slam panel.
Next is to remove the intercooler to clean it out, as well as undo the remaining Turbo Mounting bolts. (elbow bolts already loose and free turning)
If anyone has any tips on getting the best access to the turbo oil drain union or the turbo to manifold bolts appreciated.

Once the work is complete and we are sure that there is no engine related issues, we may well sell the 90, as she is so "taken" with the 81 Range Rover.

But that decision is for another day.
