So, although I'm sure there are many of these threads I need some help!! I'm currently running cooper discoverer stt tyres 285/75/16 which have been GREAT but they really on their last legs (one could be possibly classed as illegal)!
Unfortunately I can't get hold of any stt's and I've been told today I'd have to wait till the back end of summer to get hold of the stt pros in 285/75/16 due to a manufacturing delay... Which tyres should I buy?
I need MT tyres and also need them to last (stt's have lasted years and I got them part used, maybe 22000 miles at a guess???) Please help!!

If they are every day MT's, then get some with some sort of sipes in the them. And I'd probably go new over remould. If it's in frequent use, then remoulds can be fine too.

I personally like the look of the Federal Couragia M/T

I also like the look of the Maxxis Bighorn tyres.

As for sizing, I actually like 255/85R16's for a Defender. But it will limit your choice sadly.

Hey, I have had the exact same problem, apparently the STT's have been discontinued since about august last year and the STT Pro's replaced them but the 285's arnt getting over here till November (what I was told from various garages)
I like the Michelin XZL's but couldn't find them in 285! also the toyo open country MTs but they are way over my price range!

in the end I opted for the Hankook RT03 MT, no bad reviews , no complaints they just seem to work and look pretty good too!
currently waiting on them being delivered! if I remember ill update when they arrive!

They looked great at Pentillie, did you manage to have a go around the off-road course ?
MTR's aren't a Mud Terrain, despite the MT in their name. That stands for Max Traction Radial.

On some surfaces they are very good. Rocks, dry baked mud and I suspect hard dry rocks and likely sand and snow are ok.

But for 'British' mud they are terrible. In and around the Chilterns on a clay like mud they really are completely useless and one of the worst off tyres I've witnessed.

Think of them more as an A/T for use in the UK.

I have the stt pro's in 235 85 r16 form, and i must say they are excellent! Good on juice, amazingly quiet for such an aggressive tread too!

I took mine up the ddinas mawddwy pass ( highest pass in wales and very steep) with 3-4 inches of snow up top and they performed faultlessly! Very happy and very well priced, £420 for 4, fitted and balanced!
Unless you REALLY want the 285's id seriously recommend downsizing just to get these!! :)
