Hey up guys. Is there a way of getting a new fuel tank in an early 90 without taking the seatbox out?

Got the old one out underneath as the outrigger was cut off but now I've replaced it. I can't figure it how to get the damn thing out.

Wasn't particuarly wanting the seatbox out as all the bolts will need to be cut off by the look of em.

Yeah, but then you can paint the chassis and check the plumbing.:D

Yes it can be done, I did my 1993 90 was tight but doable.
I did the whole thing from underneath seatbox stayed put etc.

When I did the 1988 Ninety TC. I removed the sill this allowed some flex in the seat box side and after much swearing got the little fecker in.

Think I did a thread on it a while back.

EDIT:

Nope, my thread was just a rant that it was a sod of a job and unfortunately there are no photos....might have some somewhere, so will look, no promises.

I just had to pull my tank out as well. I attempted to remove the sill in order to try and get it out, but that was a pain in the ass. Removing the seat box was far easier and gave me access to the underside so I could clean it up while I was in there. The most difficult part of removing the seat box were the two bolts located on each side of the box that have the captive square nuts on the underside. Those captive nuts tend to come undone and just spin.

Bugger.

Ok .... seatbox out

Ta :)

You'll likely have to take the sill out as well. I've recently put my tank in as part of the rebuild. Seat box wasn't yet in, but I had bolted the sill in, visually thinking the tank would angle in past it. I couldn't manage it. Maybe could have forced it big style, but it is a new tank which I have also painted and I didn't want to scrape the paint off. Sounds like some people manage better than me though.

well its in... and the seatbox doesnt need to come out ;)

whip the front tank mount off and it slides straight in. I shot blasted the mount whilst i was there :)

Then jetwashed everything so its nice and clean.

its getting there. Before i cleaned it today there was so much mud it wouldnt engage diff lock!

Itll be painted whilst the floor plates are off.
