Recently my TD5 has started making this weird and not so wonderful noise... I have no idea what it could be. The person who videod it had a new head gasket fitted incorrectly and thats what caused the noise, however I have not had a new head gasket fitted in the last 2 weeks, which the noise has been around for... So far facebook has been fairly useless for advice.. Ive checked for blows from around the Exh. Manifold, checked the crank pulley, used an extension as a stethoscope, cant pin point where this noise comes from... I dont seem to have any oil in my ECU harness, and I cant see it coming from my injectors? Although I do intend on re-adjusting them in a bit...

I am totally out of ideas as to what this noise could be... As are my mates and work colleagues. One whom works for LR, he said it sounds like my bottom end, but it doesnt sound like that to me. Plus having travelled several hundred miles if it was my bottom end, I dont think it would run any more. And it would definitely got worse... This has got a bit louder but not any more 'painful' sounding..

This is not my car but it sounds exactly the same, and its much clearer than any video Ive taken on my phone

Any help would be much appreciated!
Hopefully its a cheap fix. It's already had 2 water pumps, an alternator and an oil flush and I've owned it less than a month.

Too tappy to be bottom end.
Sounds very much like camshaft, or could be one of the injector rockers needing adjustment.
Either way, dont keep running it until you have a good look under the cam cover.
Look for broken valve springs or possibly broken injector spring.
Rock all the injector rockers to check if any are loose.
May just be a bad hydraulic lash adjuster.
Let us know what you find.

Do you have ACE? My td5 started making a weird noise recently which was like a rattle/tap/vibration, which I now know for sure is coming from the valve block. It sounds very similar to an exhaust manifold leak.

Sorry it took an age for me to report my findings! I work nights so sleep most of the day, and the from getting up to going to sleep Im always busy!

I removed the rocker cover and found my problem straight away. The front most bolt going through the rocker shaft had come loose, and was standing about 15mm proud of the shaft. Nipped it back up and hey presto the noise is gone! It's only covered about 10 miles since I've sorted it, but so far so good it doesnt seem to have come loose again!
