hey all, ok, so i slammed my glove box shut a while back after it kept popping open... and now i have an SRS Airbag warning on the Dash, i have tried resetting it with the Nano, but just pops back up..

so did i damage a sensor ? or maybe just a bad connector ?
if so, what's best to check, and where are they located ??

and no more slamming things !! i know...

cheers

There is an airbag above the glove box. And a connection for it under the dash. Look for yellow wires and plugs. Playing with it unless battery is disconnected and SRS has been allowed to discharge for twenty minutes or so may not be a good idea.

yeah, i figure it must be that Airbag, and or a sensor... my worry about disconnecting the Battery is i don't have the EKA code for this P38 yet..
will i need the code to re-start the car after i disconnect the battery... obviously i don't want the thing going off in my face @ ( not a good luck !)

ha ha

Owned RR for a month with non of the 3 amigos ever showing themselves.
Phoned up for next day mot, 2 hrs later and first use after phoning, peeped the horn twice as i was waving goodbye and srs light came on.
I was slightly annoyed:mad:.
Checked over the system and could find nothing wrong, no reader yet.
I will never have the light come on again though;).

Think you will find it will fail the MOT instantly if the SRS lamp does not come on as a bulb check with ignition then go out. I take it you have removed both bulbs.

Bulbs removed and mot failure only if the red light is showing on the dash.
No light on dash, there is nothing to fail.
Srs system is not the same as abs, there is no system check, only a failure if there is a dash warning light.

Nope SRS lamp must come on for bulb and system check then then go out to prove system is set. Instant fail if it does not do this.

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_540.htm Please note the word Inoperative as a reason for rejection. On the Land rover P38 or the Classic the SRS lamp MUST come on with ignition then extinguish within 5 seconds to show the system is functioning. If it does not do this it is inoperative and is a fail. If one of the two bulbs fails the other will illuminate permanently to indicate a fault, that would also be a fail as the tester has no way of knowing it is just a bulb fail. There are a few things i personally don't think should be MOT fails but unfortunately they are.

If there are no faults showing check the SRS bulbs. If one is blown the other will stay on.

either way guys, the Digital display shows the AirBag fault regardless of the Red check light...
i can clear the fault with the Nano, but come straight back up...
so my 2nd question was regarding the disconnecting the battery before i start looking for the connector.. i don't have the EKA code..
so if i disconnect the battery will i be 'shown the finger' by the beast when i reconnect ?, having an immovable lump say on the drive isn't in my master plan.. but as you all rightly say, i need to try fix this before the MOT in MAY....

Phone the dealer get the EKA code just in case. To disconnect battery, slacken negative lead but do not remove it. Switch ignition on and off then disconnect battery within 17 seconds before alarm sets.. Does the Nano give a specific bag fault or just SRS fault. As yours is listed as T reg 1999 look under the drivers seat or passenger seat for a yellow connector. Movement of seat can cause these to lose proper contact. With ignition off unplug them and maybe use a bit of contact cleaner then re connect. Most of the time it is these connectors that cause the problem.

I'm working away the next few weeks so will try get the EKA code when i get back early May, MOT is DUE late May so need to sort this..
the Nano doesn't give a specific fault, but will clear it until you turn the ignition back on and it pop's up again..
i will try locate the con's and give them dose of contact cleaner... the Passenger side is behind the Glove box i think ( which i'm reasonably sure is what caused this in the first place..)..
cheers

Passenger bag plug is above the glove box to the right.

As long as you disconnect the battery whilst the vehicle is unlocked and the alarm isn't set then you should be fine as the vehicle will power up in the last state it was in. The EKA problems usually start if the vehicle was locked/alarmed when the power was lost (battery gone flat for example) as when you reconnect power to it, it will revert to the last state of locked.

Slacken negative lead but DO NOT remove. Switch ignition ON and OFF. Disconnect negative lead within 17 seconds.

Just don't do that on the later ones with factory sat nav, as it can kill the drive. The later owners manuals say to leave them 2 minutes until the light on the navigation drive has gone out, otherwise it can cause issues if it is still writing to the memory. Which I guess is probably what had happened to mine in the past as when I first used it, the last location was always the same and it even though it says it would save a new address, on next power up it would show the same details as before.
