If you're trying to fab a chassis you've a way to go before you need to worry about lining up the bulkhead. You need the tub in place first.

If the chassis is that bad a replacement is worth considering.

I think lots of general recovery firms used them, not specifically for offroad but because of its size with a reputation for ruggedness and a low box which meant it could punch above its weight.

Difficult to know on value, it's more a curiosity to most with the crane than a practical vehicle unless you have a use for it or remove the crane and build a nice, usable Series.

Hi there blue beasty the fab of the shassis is no major problem as I can fab an I have a coded welder doing the main welding for me (at a cost of course) my main goal is to put it back somewhere as near original obviously not the shassis it will be done to spec just not 47yr old an then I would like to show it off at some rallies or lr shows , I'm sure there is probably some law now stating that you can't tow with the crane ill have to look into it , also the crane is quick release so it don't interfere with the pickup bed ..I'm hoping to start fab on the shassis in next few wks so ill take a load of pics an post them as I go along an give feed back as to its difficulty and cost compared to say a new steel shassis , I will also post some pics of the build as it goes on I'm kinda hoping to do it all in around the 3 month mark (he says ) lucky I have 2 pairs of hands and 2 brains to aid me on the restoration.engine is due to come out Friday so that will then leave axes an bulkhead with loom attached to bulkhead .I have put an order in for 3mm 2500 1250 sheet steel which is more than enough to start fabbing
I just hope I can do this old girl justice and pull off a quality restoration...........

sounds really interesting, please do put some photos in would love to see how this goes.

i don;t know where you'd get an on-line copy, but the workshop manual i have has full measurements of the chassis which are really useful when working on it.

Hi trax yes I've seen them all an if you can't weld or fabricate then it's definitely the only option but I'm on a limited budget with work
Shop fees 2 motorcycles a disco pickup build that I need for work an of course the beloved series so fabrication is the way forward as I think I can build a shassis for around 400 mark out of 3mm mild steel so the savings can be spent on other series needs.... engine gearbox/overhaul , axels , swivels and electrics ..I estimate that I will start it around 23rd of this month fingers crossed ..
