Thinking of doing this on the Disco. Its sluggish as hell picking away. Going to check all the usual suspects at the weekend, but thought I would order up a decat pipe and do that when I'm at it. Not chipped and not keen to get it chipped. Any thought / advice appreciated.

In a word, yes. They tend to block up and throttle performance.
Any signs apart from a perceived poor performance.
Mine does seem a little sluggish. I always put it down to being a 2 ton brick shape vehicle but my brother in laws one same age and mileage just seems a bit more responsive.

Its coming off then. Found a Stainless one for £66 (Flatdog I think ?) and I'll stick the old pipe in the garage next to the EGR and all the other crap.

Only a fail if no cat on a car that needs full cat test. But with the latest we hate diesel noises that are about de-catting a diesel will soon be equal in severity to treason. :D:D

Well unless it's been changed if a diesel vehicle was fitted with a particulate filter from new it requires one for the test. :)

Yes but a particle filter is not a Cat. :D

No mater what it's called if it was fitted with one from new it has to have one for the test, I think most testers will be turning a blind eye but you never know. Most people refer to the particulate filter as a cat. :)

No mention of Cat removal being a fail on diesel MOT. Only on petrol engines that require a full Cat test does it say if Cat was fitted as standard from new it must be present. This is to get over the people who removed Cats and had their petrol cars tested on LPG. But at times ran them on petrol. Particle filters only came in with Euro 4 emissions checks. Particle filters and Cats are not the same thing. Different items. Cat is to cut diesel smell, particle filter is to catch soot produced by very close to the bone EGR use to reduce Nox. Newer vehicles 2004-6 on are a different matter.;);)

I did mine a couple of weeks ago and was surprised how much improvement it made but I've kept the cat in the garage just in case it fails the MOT but fingers crossed it doesn't. I think in all my searching of threads and posts about removal and MOTs I only found one person who said his had failed. You may want to make sure you can get the cross members off before you start decating yours, the bolts can put up a bit of a fight.
If it's really sluggish have you tried unplugging the MAF sensor to see if that improves things?

I haven't done anything yet mate. Going to go over it all at weekend and see what's what. Thanks for the feedback on your decat. Looking forward to it. As for the cross member. Had it off a while back and copper greased all the bolt so fingers crossed it will come off easy.:)

How did you get on with this... did de-catting it make as much improvement as you hoped?

I did mine, made no difference, but it does mean that it is less likely to rust away, so if some nugget decides it is needed I can always refit it.

Cheers
