Why are you removing the key? Do u have to, to enable u press the lock button? Yes. Tried it with key still in and nothing happens
The indicators will flash when pressing unlock and lock, so no problem there.
If you delay starting the engine after unlocking the red LED will illuminate after a short delay indicating the engine has reimmobilised so no problem there. That's not how it used to be. Could turn off, and with key left in ignition, it would start again when I turned the key. So for example, waiting at a level crossing, I could switch off ignition and restart when crossing opened again
And now back to the start, unlocking the vehicle will remobilise the engine so no problem. Well, this is not the case. As I said, when I unlock the vehicle and put key in the ignition, I turn it, wait for glowplug lamp to go out then turn fully to start. However, this is when I get a steady red lamp and the starter doesn't turn as immobilised. So I have to remove key from ignition, press unlock, then key back in and it starts fine
So what exactly is happening? What I just described

Are u your saying is the engine doesn't stay remobilised for a short period after in locking? Yep before the delay expires and the vehicle immobilise its self again..
Or the fob is not communicating with the "exciter ring arround the ignition switch, is that not happening? Well it must do or it wouldn't start at all

There's a few things I want to find out by plugging in a tester. On my todo list. I'm thinking water ingress on BCU may be behind things. Will investigate when weather clears up here. Oh for a garage!

You said you are locking the car with the key as this seams more stable regarding the alarm going off, are you then opening with the fob?
My understanding is you should open the same way you locked but I could be wrong.

There are 3 available settings to disarm the alarm:
1. Key never = you can disarm it only with fob no matter how you locked it(this is the factory setting)
2. Always disarm with key = you can disarm wit key too no matter how it was locked
3. Key if armed with key = the key will disarm it only if it was locked with key
None of these settings is supposed to affect the disarming with fob cos you should be able to disarm with fob regardless of the setting, IMO the best is the 2'nd option to not trigger the alarm if the receiver or battery in the fob fails, in this case if the passive immobiliser is disabled you can start it without using the EKA code
