Disco 2 Not happy - not happy at all!

I have literally beaten the screaming shatburgers out of my disco 2 over the last 6 months. Off road, on road, middle of the road, no roads, under the road, you name it, I have tried to drive on it, but nope, my darn D2 will not drink any oil, use any coolant, or liquids and seems completely unphased at what I throw at it!

Have I bought a freak D2? Should I force feed it? Does anyone want to buy it? I miss oil, coolant and fluid leaks, fixing prop-shafts and bent steering rods and wheel arches ripped off.

It's not fair - everyone else get's to tinker with their LR's..

load it up with pointless accessories................... that'll cost money and take time and might even cause problems!

Know where your coming from! My D2 flatly refuses to leak any oil!!
How am I going to remember where my parking space is, if I cant see a fresh oil slick?

Sounds like lack of maintenance means the fluids leaked out before you brought it.

Oh boy! You gave it away in the first line. 6 months, 6 MONTHS. Most Disco 2 owners know that is the 'getting to know you' phase. Disco 2's have an uncanny knack of waiting until a new owner is 'comfortable' or in your case (unfortunately even worse than comfortable) 'confident' Unfortunately....

The head gasket wlll now go
The fuel pump will stop working
The fuel pressure regulator will leak
Oil will seep into every known piece of wiring
The ' tra -la - la -la -la ra' 2 Amigos will appear (which cause terrible confusion) until
(Even more tra-la-la-ring) the proper 3 Amigos appear.
Automatiac boxes will act as manual vis-a- versa
You discover Nanocom/Rovacom etc and become an 'expert' which increased your problems exponentially

Stop faffing around and change everything that unbolts on the car with a similar looking product (and preferably cheaper) and you wlll be happy in the knowledge that you're like the rest of us and have improved original LR design.

You've just jinxed yourself with this braggadocio. Well played.

Take it back to your local LR main stealer and have the leaks installed as "optional extras"

Leaks well mine has had 5

Sunroofs, bodged by seller repaired by me
Steering box, new seal
Engine, new bung on front
Gearbox, new cooler pipe
Suspension, very very slow weep from valve block, just playing hunt the machine shop, then mine gets all new ACE pipes

Doesn't matter whether you thrash it or treat it like a god. It will break as and when it sees fit. Had mine 13 years, had it all go wrong (some of it three times over). Could list it all, but I want to be in bed by midnight.

Yep I had six months of bliss and that's what you will try to get back to after days weeks months and hundreds of pounds and blood spent on them and probably just as you get it just right your forced to sell it or some knob either crashs it or nicks it.

Do not, under any circumstances, go to discovery2.co.uk . It is an excellent website with pictorial 'how to-s' on all the common faults. The only snag is that your Disco will know that you have been to the site and will also know which maintenance articles are on the site. She will then begin to work her way through all the articles to keep you busy. We emigrated to Australia 5 years ago; Daisy is a 2005 D2 TD5 that we bought in '07. She has had a full service every 10,000km/6,000 miles (by me) and while in the UK she hadn't caused us any maintenance beyond regular servicing and fair wear and tear. Since going down under she has needed a new: starter motor, radiator, expansion tank cap (the root cause of the blown rad), rear diff, steering box, gear box (yes, a whole gear box and therefore clutch and flywheel), injector harness and rear air springs. To be fair she is 12 years old and has covered 275,000km and I am able to do the work myself. I have a suspect turbo wastegate modulator, leaking sunroofs and clunking rear suspension bushes on my 'to do' list. On the other hand, 3 of my last 4 cars have been Land Rovers (SIII, D200Tdi & Daisy) and I am an enthusiast and an Engineer by trade so fixing my own car is my hobby. I still miss the SIII (and the MGB that preceded it) and will always support the Solihull product.

I managed a year out of mine before the horrors began.

Well mine finally bit me in the aarse!
Two weeks ago, and in the space of 5 days, the horn stopped working, 3 Amigos and brake warning lit up, and finally my repaired cylinder head re-cracked, dumping 5 litres of diesel in the sump!
At least this time (because check the level every few days!) It didnt run away!
So shes now in storage for a couple of months till I save up for a new AMC head...happy days!
Oh and I have NO intention of selling her when shes fixed!!

Just pray that the previous owner was fair enough to not fill it with loads of leak stoppers everywhere, then it will soon start to make you serious troubles
