Freelander 1 HDC light

When i switch my Td4 auto's hdc on at a standstill and drive off the light flashes, is this right of should it be a constant light?
If it should be constant, what could be the problem and how would I fix it?

It'll flash all the time unless you're in either 1st or Reverse - and going down a hill with your feet off both the accelerator and the brake pedal.

The flashing light only shows that the Hill Descent has been selected - a constant yellow shows it is active and actually controlling your descent.

looks like I need to play with it on a hill and as what it does.
Only had it for a couple of months and haven't had chance to play yet
