I've never had so much trouble from one insurance company ever!
All I want to do is cancel my policy.

I'm not usually one to moan but this seriously takes the p!ss.

Now on my second year of insurance with them and I really wish I changed whilst I had the chance in October '15.

Anyway the point of the thread.

The cheeky barstewards want to charge me £137 to cancel my policy as change of circumstances has forced me to buy a daily. So want to take the landy off the road for a month or so and then insure as a second vehicle in a few months time.

How the hell can they charge that much to cancel? It's daylight robbery!!! The woman on the phone said it's something to do with a shortfall on the loan agreement or some bollocks like that.

I argued and said I pay monthly so surely the amount I have paid up to now should have me covered? But obviously not....

I don't think they will ever receive business from me again after this.
I'd rather pay more and go elsewhere.

Has anyone else had this trouble trying to cancel a policy with Flux?
What was your outcome?

Apologies for the rant btw. Really wound up now by this....

I was with AF for a while, renewal time they were more expensive than others, so I changed! However, they were pretty good during the time I was with them .. ;)

I'd suggest that if you're paying monthly, then there's a balance left to pay on the insurance (I presume it was an annual policy) which needs paying in full before it can be cancelled. You buy a 12 month policy and want to cancel it early, but you still have to pay for that 12 months, and it's potential interest, before they can cancel, hence it appears to cost a lot to cancel. It's the rules ... What you might do in future is of no consequence and has no bearing on the matter.

It's the same for probably every annual insurance company, not just AF, that is taken out on a monthly payment policy.

Cancel the direct debit. They can't take any more money! I dont know where it will leave you with regards to NCB.

It'll leave him in dead trouble, notwithstanding the no claims ... He's taken out a monthly payment policy which is NOTHING to do with the insco, it's a loan agreement that usually needs paying in full before it can be cancelled and any cancellation costs sorted out.

I see what your saying Paul.

But I've never had trouble cancelling an insurance policy before. Usually get charged maybe a £30 administration charge but that's it.

I just don't understand the reasoning...

I've always payed my insurance monthly and never had a problem like this. (I like to change vehicles)

I was not informed I would have to pay 'x' amount if I were to cancel etc.

Still seems like daylight robbery and I'm definitely not happy about it.

All I want to do is cancel without being charged the earth and get my no claims back from them.

I see your point, but it's a pretty early cancellation and I can see their side of it, they're mitigating losses! I've also rarely had issues changing or cancelling policies before, but I guess it'll mostly depend on the very specific set of circumstances in each case, such as maybe the length left on the policy and how much has been paid of the total policy charge.

ie a 12 month policy doesn't cost anywhere near as much as a four month policy taken as a cost per month .. I'd hazard a guess that they're pretty close all things being equal, and that the charge for early cancellation of a 12 month, monthly paid policy is some equation based on costs for a shorter rather than longer policy and the amounts potentially 'lost' by your cancellation.

Must admit I'd be miffed but I wouldn't think about it too long .. ;)

Hi Robbh,

Sorry to hear you are experiencing problems, if you could PM me some details I would be happy to look into this for you.

Kind Regards
Jamie

I've been able to cancel ins policies before with a change of car or a stonking deal, and at worst have paid a fee of around £40-50, and the monthly payments cover until the end of which ever monthly period.

If you are required to pay the balance of the 12 month policy, then I would expect to also get the benefit of the full 12 month policy - or whatever remains. It has to work both ways..

Go with NFU and get a better product and at least feel safe in the knowledge that they won't try and stiff you or ignore you when you do need to make a claim.

Likewise. Been able to change or cancel no problem at all in the past. This is the first time I've ever had a problem.
Like you say the monthly payments usually cover the current month.

Well I've contacted Jamie anyway. So maybe this will get sorted out. Who knows.

Will find out soon enough when they call me...... Im not holding my breath though.....

It always amuses me that people call AF an insurance company, they're not, they are an insurance brokers.
They check all the companies, saving you from ringing round them all and get you the best deal taking a bit off the top.
It would be interesting to know how much of the charge is AFs and how much is the insurance companies.

Without a don't Adrian flux are the worst company I have ever dealt with for insurance.
Nazi organisation

Finally someone figured it out. No different from a travel agent trying to find you the best air fare to bum fook egypt

they are just a broker. You don't need to use them. Just sit down and make the calls to 80 different insurance company's yourself, How many hours of your life would that take to call 80 company's asking for the best deal?

I have just had Adrian Flux cancel my insurance policy.

I was with them for a year paying monthly and it came to renewal time, I work abroad alot and often have no internet access so when i returned to find they had cancelled my policy rather than rolling on to the following year i was a little miffed. I phoned them after i received a txt saying my policy was cancelled and asked why.

Apparently they wanted me to send more evidence (up to 5 years) of my no claims even after they had insured me for the previous year and were happy with what i had provided when i took out the policy in the first place. Now they have the cheek to send me a letter saying i owe them nearly £200 that needs to be settled!!

Im totally staggered by this, completely unreasonable.

Alasdair
