Defender Engine conversion

Hi all and happy New Year .........looking for some advice please

I currently have a 200 tdi defender 90 and also a rotten disco 1 V8 manual with a superb engine and box. I wish to transfer engine and box from Disco into defender can may i have some advice on how to go about this and what is interchangeable .Also with regard to engine mounts are there bolt on mounts available ?

I'm currently converting a 300tdi defender into a v8 -using a 3.9 from a disco.

I can tell you that I think the following works:

3.9 v8 from disco
bell housing and input shaft from v8 r380 gearbox
r380 manual box
v8 engine mounts (different to 200tdi mount locations).

I guess you'll have the lt77 box on that 200tdi, so not sure what the situation iis if you want to keep that gearbox.

the disco box (r380?) will have the wrong shifter on it.

not sure if the bulkhead/seatbox might be different on a 200tdi.

You can use the complete disco drivetrain, but get a R380 defender conversion kit from Ashcrofts, and use the top housing off your current LT77 box.

And yes there are bolt on engine mounts

Just a quick question dave on that, I thought that conversion from ashcroft required the top housing from a R380 defender gearbox. Are you saying that it can be done with an LT77 defender top housing?

you can use defender lt77 top housing but you need to remove the interlock post

And if anyone wants to sell their old defender engine I might be interested.

Yes, LT77 top housing will work. You just need to plug the reverse switch plunger hole.
