I have a 2001 Discovery 2 TD5 and I think the previous owner (probably for a good reason) switched off all the warning chimes in the BCU. I am ok with this but I would like a warning buzzer to sound when I leave my lights on and I either open the door or I turn off the ignition. I left them on the other day and came back to a flat battery. Bump starting a disco is no fun :)

I have bought a simple buzzer from ebay and wondered if someone could direct me to the correct and easiest wires to get to to connect it up to. Someone must have done this in the past

Many thanks

Dennis

You will need a couple of more items than a simple buzzer, so pick up your side light circuit at the fuse box, a 'piggy back' fuse holder may help you there, install a single wire from the fuse holder to the buzzer's fixed position and then from the buzzer install a single wire and a door pin-switch at the drivers door pillar to ground the circuit.

When the side lights are on and u open the drivers door the buzzer will sound. Simples.:)

+1^^^ ...or the speaker is disconnected or faulty cos there's no setting in BCU to disable completely the audible warnings and no way to disable it for lights on when you opern the door, that's on by default, it can be disabled for seatbelts or key in ignition but that's about all... check the speaker eventually connect the buzzer instead of it

Has the ACE system been done away with. The buzzer is the same one that warns when the fluid is low.

Yes the ACE system has been done away with so perhaps the buzzer has been disconnected. If I reconnect the buzzer I suspect I will have loads of bonging from the chime etc. All I want is a simple buzzer for the lights on. Nothing seems to be simple these days. Thanks for your help

I have just bought a pin switch so I think I will do it the old fashioned way with the buzzer positive connected to the side lights power and the negative from the buzzer connected to the pin switch then earth when the drivers doow is opened.

Does anyone know where the easiest place is to get at the side lights positive and what colour the wire is etc

Thanks
Dennis

IMO you better fix things if you have chimes than disconnect the factory fitted speaker, about the ACE, as long as you dont have the warning lamp on it means the system was disabled so no reason for audible warnings, the audible warning is always associated with a warning lamp to warn you about a fault except for side lamps, seatbelts or key in ignition these last two can be disabled with tester as well, eventually 3 chimes for completed self test of SLABS on facelifts... so your way there is a chance to have a non-working warning lamp and with speaker disconnected you'll not know that there is some system fault present... though if you insist to bodge it your way side lamps live is after the stalk, C0041-4 red wire you have to undo only 2 scews for that to remove the cowl

Thanks for your help. I have no idea if I have any chimes sounding as I have only had the Disco a short while and was unaware that it even had a chimes system and It is clear now that they have in some way been disabled from before me getting the car. I will see what I can do but thanks for your help

Many thanks for all your help. I have wired in a buzzer the old way by connecting it to the red wire noted above C0041 4 Red (That was tight getting a cable connector in there). Then feeding the negative wire hrough the grommet in the side behind the trim panel to the right of the drivers feet. I then drilled a hole and fitted in a pin switch. It seems to work ok. Old school I know but I understand that
