I've just removed the 6 way lighting switch, joined the brown and brown with white tracer wires, also joined the stop light ,wires. Alps great apart from I have no tail lights, everything else works, fog lamps, all the headlamps, I've power at all the fuses and not blown fuses, any ideas?

yes I've checked the bulbs, all good, the stop lamps work fine, both are on a common earth aren't they? thanks for the help so far

Assuming it was working fine before it sounds like you haven't connected the tail light wiring when you rewired the switch. From memory the old switch would have had position 'T' for tail lights, 'ST' for Side + Tail and HST for headlight + side + tail. Do you have a note of what wire colour was fitted to the T position as that is the one that will need to be attached to the wire that was on the ST position.

This may help as there appears to be a wiring diagram a bit down the page http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0LEV1z26oNWiu4AxgFXNyoA;_ylc=X1MDMjc2NjY3OQRfcgMyBGZyAwRncHJpZAN1WmUzdy55RlJwR2Z2cGtFa1hTbWtBBG5fcnNsdAMwBG5fc3VnZwMwBG9yaWdpbgNzZWFyY2gueWFob28uY29tBHBvcwMwBHBxc3RyAwRwcXN0cmwDBHFzdHJsAzQyBHF1ZXJ5A21pbGl0YXJ5IGxhbmQgcm92ZXIgbGlnaHRpbmcgc3dpdGNoIHdpcmluZwR0X3N0bXADMTQ1MTQ4NjQ2NA--? p=military+land+rover+lighting+switch+wiring&fr2=sb-top-search&vf=all&vs=

thanks for the help according to the diagrams i can fine, the rear lights are the 2 pairs of red wires at the bottom on the socket, if i put 12v to either of these all which happens is the binnacle lights are on, I'm getting very confused now, with this and the bolt on bits hazard light switch (phoned and it was a waste of time)

From the link I posted it looks like the tail lights (and number plate light) are fed by a red/black wire. Does the number plate light work?

hi kwakerman, no the light isn't working either, I've just been out with a multi meter, no power to the tail lights, i cant find a black red wire behind where the 6 way switch was, i have checked the fuses and the power at the fuses aswell.

There must have been a tail lights wire coming to that 6 way switch. Have another look. If it's not there, someone must have removed it, and it will have to be replaced - which means working from the loom where it comes into the engine bay from the chassis back towards the dash.

everybody thank you a lot for the help and advice!! fault fixed, i removed the fuse box and there were 2 broken wires, there are 2 pairs of red wires, 2 wires had snapper and one or both must of been arcing, I've repaired the wiring and i now have all lights!!
I've spent hours with a multi meter and trying to find out where, its finally done now!
