Some questions re 90 improvements

Hi folks...

Have seen a 90 that I am considering buying but I have a couple of questions for those in the know please..
  1. How easy is it to change the central cup holder to a cubby box?
  2. If you were buying a 2010/11 plate defender panel van, would you suggest putting 'blindspot' windows in the rear, or the triangular ones...???
  3. In relation to point 2, does anyone know of anyone that can put in triangular, tinted, windows on the rear side sections (just behind front seats) in the South? Preferable around the Bournemouth area???
  4. Are the tubular side steps easy to attach yourself?

Marmaduke, I spoke to them yesterday actually... They want £200 to fit it, but really am not good with these types of things... I guess it is more about not having the tools... What do you need to cut it out?

Interestingly tho, the guy advised me not to put a
blindspot window in a newer van as he thinks it will devalue it, as the placement is wrong, if anyone wants to do anything to it after I sold it ion in years to come...???? For me, having already owned a Landy van, I think they are almost a necessity????

hughesy, I appreciate that there is a lot more to owning them than sticking some bolts etc in... I'm just a dumbass when it comes to working on cars (I know... Why am I getting a lady then :confused:)

All I used was a marker pen, masking tape, jigsaw, silicone and an electric drill. Buying the template makes life easier and I don't know if they rivet in or not, my sliding ones did
 
Cubby box is nice and simple to do.
It literally is a matter of drilling four holes and attaching it with four bolts.

I don't know if the modern defender use the same seat box lids as earlier defenders.

Side steps are usually bolt on things. Pretty simple but will mean laying on the ground and struggling to get bolts in. Just requires some patience.

You can make some out of tube and weld then on but I'd advise against welding them on. I bought a 110 CSW with some homemade steps welded on. They look pretty good but it's more work when the chassis needs work. As the are attached to outriggers.

If you've got money to spend on such minor niggles it might be better to put some money into preserving steel components on the defender.
Doors, bulkhead and chassis immediately spring to mind.

After seeing the new defenders being more they seem to have included more rust traps than previous defenders.

On top of the above... Can someone please let me know if I should be looking out for water pumps needing to be changed? and at what mileage should they have been done...? Thx in advance...
 
If the water pump isn't leaking and your cooling system appears to be working OK, leave it alone. They are infamous for shearing the bolts when trying to remove them.
