Plasma cutter?

Check power, I haven't seen many which would run off a normal plug socket, knowing what power is like in France that may be your issue.

Yes, you're right about the French electricity :). We have a decent supply here, and also have 3-phase, but I want to be able to use it in various locations so single phase is a must.

Looking at an R-tech model.

Have a 16amp feed put in from the consumer unit, ours works fine from that ....
13a just keeps popping ...

Ha, ha, ha.... Yes, they are the same colour, so easy ti make a mistake :)

No fuses fitted to plugs here in Frogland.

I was answering Dippy. As long as not used continuously all day it should be fine off a 32 amp ring main. What she said is best way though. ;)

aren't there a couple of types. one where you need to run your air compressor to it and another that has one built in?

I hot a plasma cut 40 from plasma parts in Loughborough.

You have to supply it with air but it was 1/3 the price of the rtech ones and works well. If your buying a plasma cutter you should already have a compressor in your toolkit anyway.

Has made light work of some jobs that would have been a ballache with a grinder and I think they are safer too

I'm a big fan of R-Tech and use their stuff on a daily basis. When my old TIG welder finally became beyond repair I so wanted to go out and spend 5k on a Miller but at the end of the day the after sales support and 2 year collect and return warranty of the R-Tech equipment made the decision into a no - brainer and I've never looked back since. Their stuff beats all the DIY products hands down and is well up to serious professional use. The basic design is made in China and it's then fitted with a proper Siemens power supply and supported properly in this country - fantastic value for money.
