Lidl (again)

Don't know if this has been flagged up already but from 17th Sept Lidl have some of their bargain air tools.
No shock to learn they are probably not up there with the top names but at these prices , + they give a three year warranty on most stuff , just the job for anyone working on a budget.
I am thinking about the air extention reel and may try the shot blasting tool.

I was looking at that, but a couple of tablets with a strong cup of coffee and I was right as rain.

Tried that - might have to use Dyna-Rod or whatever they call it.

That should bring a tear !
Seriously I don't know how they do an impact gun with an extension and throw in some sockets at under £20, like I said probably not world beaters but handy thing to have.

From experience of the last time Lidl sold these...the shotblaster didn't work, the impact gun...didn't work, the sockets were not very robust.
Check the recommended cfm on the boxes to make sure your compressor has the capacity to drive the tools as well.
I tried the tools on a bigger compressor but still no joy.
As always, you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the heads up, may just try and get the extension air line, although I have found they just give you your money back if you complain, and still have the receipt.
Most tools like impact guns or even die grinders use quite a bit of air and when you are limited to a 13 Amp single phase compressor there is no chance it will keep up, trick is to get one with 100 ltr receiver and run it in bursts, I use an IR impact gun great but it soon has the compressor pump running.

Yes, I was thinking of going for the extension air line as that will come in handy. I must remember to keep the receipts - I'm useless at that!

from experience the impact gun is good, it has got me out of a good few tight nut spots! the shot blaster is pants, it does about 1" at a time there are ways to mod it to make it better but you can do the same mod to a standard compressor spray bottle so don't waste your money. you cannot go wrong with the hose. that's what I will be getting after damaging mine the other week!

That's interesting, maybe the one Karls bought was just a duffer, I didn't expect the lidl one to be like the thundergun or anything but if it can help then its not dear and in my experience they just swap or give your money back if it's no good.
Impact guns are worth their weight in gold sometimes where you want to get a nut off a shaft which is hard to lock the impact action is just the job, when I really want to get brutal I use one of these brutes with 3/4" drive.

also maybe karl is used to working with much higher quality tools? I am just a messer and use cheap stuff. but as you say their warranty is quite good so you don't really have much to loose.

the way I see it is if it only removes 1 stubborn nut that you would not be able to get off otherwise, its worth its money

are those needle guns, nibblers or whatever they are better than using wire brush attachments on drills?

I would be interested to know that also, they could get into much smaller spaces

I have a good quality one, they are fine BUT they are fierce I could imagine if you have any weakness in your chassis then using one of them would have a hole in it in no time. Long ago I have used them to de scale boiler tubes.

thx, I shall err on the side of safety and stick with the wire brushes, a new chassis is inevitable one day but there is no sense rushing towards it

Just a heads up you guys, if you're ever struggling to meet the CFM rating that you need, and you don't want to fork out for a high-end compressor, go ahead and get yourself a Compressor Expansion tank/vessel, your compressor will generally be working continuous and obvious wear will be increased (not too much though), but you'll be able to do most of the jobs the big boys compressors are capable of, and for a fraction of the cost

Depends what you want it to do, its not a very big tank and for all but the smallest of jobs the pump will be forever running.

Don't let me put you off altogether, they are fine for shifting muck rust paint on sound strong surfaces, and these are cheap. Just don't apply them to anything that may be thin or weak.

Re the compressor, yes it's a small tank and like any 13Amp powered compressor the pump will not keep up with many air tools.
But as in the post above by Fmog you can try and get another tank and parallel it up with this one, I have a 100 ltr tank on mine and I can use my impact guns in bursts, certainly would not want to be without it.
