What gave you the bug?

What gave you the love of the green oval?

With me I am now on my sixth discovery. I've had TD5's and 200tdi's but found the 300tdi to be the best. I started using a standard Discovery for a bit of laning as well as using it as my daily driver and now have a pure toy. I got the bug from watching my Dad compete in various off road forms including him being AWDC champion in the 90s. He still has many Landrovers but now suffers from Parkinson's Disease so does not get to use them how he wants to. He has always offered me advice and used to fix mine when I'd broken them but now his health prevents this although he wouldn't admit it. So thanks to the advice I find on here I am learning by getting my hands dirty.

So where did you start?

I caught the bug the first time I drove one, when I worked at JLR.

Originally started at Jaguar, but when it became JLR, I had to take driving courses in the LR's to drive on the test track.

Wasn't sure at first until we started to go off-road - then I was hooked.
I bought my RRC about a month later, and still have it.

It was foisted upon me. Somebody made me an offer that I couldn't refuse on my '93 RR LSE. Of course, I had to get another one for bits.

Working in sales in main dealer helped me a bit! Lol

i borrowed a friends rrc to take the wife to a wedding and loved it then a builder i worked for bought a series 3 csw that was an experience i never forgot so when i had the chance of a disco that was well looked after and it was cheap i just had to have it, it's a bit scruffy now but i like it

i got hooked when i worked on motorway bridges,the boss loved
driving the road roller,but i had the last laugh,the firm we worked
for got a series 3,i copped it straight away,smitten since then,1972ish.

Had to take some clients on a Land Rover experience day and have loved em ever since.

I bought a landy mag in about 1990 - I was about 11.

Been around them for last 25 years in every military modified variation...

I was skint (no change there) and my old C250 was past it, was offered the disco on a payment plan by a mate, first drive I though oh my god what have I brought, but half way home (about 80 miles) I was smitten.

Then a few months later did some green lanes, then P&P sites and the fondness grew.

Mmm... TACR2...

I had a Matchbox one as a bairn!

My brother had a Series 3 20 odd years ago. I still have the roof and gearbox n my S2.

The RAF taught me to drive in one and I passed my test in a series. I then spent the next 3 years driving a lightweight everyday, with a plough in the winter months.

32 years later and I've never really recovered.

Our youngest son bought one out of a barn from one of our stationary engine contacts.

Went through all sorts of modifications but when we started taking our larger engines to shows we needed a tug for the trailer, so we bought the one we still have now, 6 years on.

When I was 15 my boyfriend had a 90... Wanted one ever since so when I got in the position to save some money after buying my house etc... I saved up 4k and bought my first 300tdi... When that got stolen (3 times in all!) I was very kindly given half the deposit money for my 2015 defender off my dad...

That's the dafr thing about dad's they have a soft spot for their daughters

The RAF didn't teach me and I often drove a series with a fire pump on the back but the rest is almost the same
One advantage of having the snow plough on your service licence,....

You weren't out there shovelling.

Been into 4x4's and off roading for years in various marques,all Japanese.Picked up the disco last September off a mate of mine.It was just a stop-gap 'til I got hold of another L200.But it seems to have me,so,modifications have already started.
Looks like the green oval is taking over...

Fell in love with them while on a course for my gliders licence. The glider tugs were all yellow series and lightweights.
