Hi All,

Are the FEBI and B and B Components version of this oil separator ok to fit or would it be worth paying the extra for the genuine BMW version?

Current price from the local BMW garage is £31.32 as opposed to £22 delivered for the FEBI and B&B versions.

I used the BMW upgrade they said it needs to be changed every 2 years.
 
I agree there is nothing to change in that there are only plastic components and a couple of rubber seals. That will be BMW trying to make money out of nothing, especially as this is not covered in any maintenance schedules.:mad:

Guys, do you recommed genuine BMW parts.... Or one of the other aftermarket suppliers parts?

Did this upgrade last year (feb) and whilst servicing the car (10000 miles) today removed it to check how its doing and it was spotless just a light coat oil no gunk like the sponge filter used to get.
 
Hi I'm new to the forum but have been viewing posts for a while. My 52 L322 was blowing black smoke and only doing 18 mpg. I followed the instructions on here and hey presto the smoke has gone. The filter was covered in black oil. I gave the whole thing a clean and fitted the modified filter. What a difference! Just done a quick 5 mile run and averaged 26 mpg.....I'm gob smacked ... many thanks for this great post. :)

Great thanks for the info u have given. I did read about this being an issue but didnt give any detail on how to carry out the replacment. May just have a go at replacing it this weekend.
 
Hi Guys,

I am having a similar problem on my 2007 Freelander2 2.2 TD4. I experienced sudden very rough running and just managed to get the car home. I ran the code reader and got the following codes P 1259 - Immobilizer to power train control signal error, P0570 - Speed control Acceleration signal error and P02E8 - Diesel Intake Airflow Position Sensor - circuit low. Having looked up the codes I decided to remove and inspect the throttle body. This was very heavily fouled with oil and when I stripped the motor cover plate, I found the gear cavity " full of oil". This is when I started looking for breather filter problem and is where I am stuck, as the engine/filter configuration on my car is very different from the lay out that has been discussed in this forum.. Can anyone shed any light on where and if there is a replaceable filter in this configuration. I enclose a diagram of the layout in my engine compartment. Thanks
