After buying my truck with 12 months MOT last summer the MOT has come back around.
It passed last time with 1 advisory. Today it has failed spectacularly with 13 failures. Great.

Is there anybody in the Derbyshire area who would be able to give us a hand repairing some shoddy welding to the front cross member? It also needs the bushes on the front arms replacing.

This is just the start of the list but I would struggle to afford to put it into the garage to get everything fixed.

Please help.

Where abouts in Derbyshire are you as it's a big place

I am half way between Buxton and Bakewell.
Nah it's not the crossmember that the gearbox is mounted to. It's right underneath the engine

Why not list the 13 failures...and am sure everyone will advise on cost or parts or how to attempt each job? Sometimes what sounds like a difficult job is doable with a bit of advice...:)

some of the jobs are fairly simple and i will be able to get sorted myself
they are:

1.bonnet retaining device ineffective - i do need a new bonnet as mine is bent and nackered. i am trying to source a new one, mine doesnt have a safety catch on it at the moment
2.parking brake lever has no reserve travel
3.windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid, the nozzel has come off so the water shoots out forward - im hoping i can just clean up and glue the old nozzle back on
4.brake pedal anti-slip provision missing - new one ordered, should be able to attach straight on
5. 3 rear seat belts missing (vehicle made in 1988 so does require), gonna just remove the seats untill i can source seatbelts
6.(front cross member) steering component mounting prescribed area is inadequately repaired (dodgy repair by previous owner i think) - probably gonna need section removing and replacing
7. nearside drag link end ball joint has excessive play
8. (all 4 bushes on both front arms) radius arm has excessive play in a pin/bush
9. offside front panhard rod has excessive play in a pin/bush
10. offside headlamp aim too low
11. offside rear wheel bearing has excessive play ***DANGEROUS***
12. brake pedal spongy ***DANGEROUS***
13. front vehicle structure has an inadequate repair, seriously effective its strength within 30cm of the body mountings - a repeat of point 6

i will try to put some pictures on tomorrow afternoon,
the mechanic said both points 6 and 13 refer to the same area. it looks like it has been repaired before but really badly, it looks like they have filled in an area they have attempted to weld with some silicone

yes thats the one

on a side note where would the best place to be to get poly bushes from?

Depends how fast you want them, I think I bought mine off ebay and they were floflex ones, also budget for new nuts and bolts as you usually end up cutting them off as mine were seized and this was the easiest way to get them off

thanks 200tdi ayre, the problem i have is that the defender is now off the road cos its mot has expired,
could i install poly bushes at home?
