..every time I stop a fully warmed up car?

I am wondering whether I have a stuck thermostat, because the temp gauge is always about 15 degrees below central except on heavy traffic, or on hot days, when it gets to near the exact middle.

On cold trips (I did 70 miles last night for example) the FBH seems to be on or come on when the car stops.

Is this normal?

no on the td4 the temp gauge is usually half way but last nigh was a bit cold and the fbh may have come on when you first stated the car but after a trip the fbh should not be on as the engine should be warm enough

So, where to start looking?

It nearly always comes on

When you turn the engine off, the fbh combustion fan will run on to cool the heater down. This is to stop the build up of residual heat that may damage its pcb.

I know that: the question is: should it be running at all after 70 miles at 2 a.m?

The fbh operates if the ambient temperature is below 5 degrees, and the coolant is below 60 degrees.
A faulty stat had my td4 running at 62 degrees, so a faulty one could have the fbh on all the time.

Mm. That is what I suspected. The engine is running too cool

Is that a thermostat change?

Get a bluetooth obd2 reader and free phone app and see what temperature it's running at, but looks like it may need a stat.
Thermostat should not open until it reaches 88 degrees.

I have to get the aircon regassed and the Man has a code reader..

How does your temperature gauge behave?

Hi Lenny.
temperature is after about 2 miles at 11.50 on the dial/clock when after about 10 miles and stationary it will climb to 12.00 o'clock on the dial once moving again it will return to 11.50

My FBH is constantly running no matter what temp it is outside so it must be temp sender or thermostat ?

Hmm. Mine is behaving most oddly.

For instance, today I drove about 50 miles there at midday, and 50 miles back at 10pm

On the way there, it climbed to around '10 O-clock' and stuck there a bit, then I hit traffic and it suddenly popped to 12 O-clock, and stayed there or thereabouts for the rest of the trip.

On the way back I did 15-20 miles with it at 10 o clock, then as I hit some faster roads and started doing more power and heavier braking round roundabouts*, it popped up to 11:30, and hung around there for the rest of the trip. I think its more sticky, than stuck. And the FBH did NOT come on at all as far as I can tell.

* God these auto hippos have amazing understeer on a trailing throttle. I have to left foot brake and power out of the corners to get the nose into the bend at all. Coasting with the torque concverter out of play is really really awful in terms of not enough weight on the front axles.

Was it below 5 degrees outside?, you need to find what temperature your engines running at when out on the road.

Funnily enough I have a new thermostat (among a few other things) for a TD4 sitting in my garage since selling the Hippo. ;)

Hi There you don't happen to have the FBH temperature sensor the one that sits behind the front bumper do you please ? ( JWL000020 ) thank you Arctic2
